View Full Version : Domain Registration Places...best? worst?

I currently have Dreamhost for my web hosting and domain registration.
But I don't like paying $30/year for all five of my domains to register them.

So I have some questions:

1. What are other places I can use that are cheaper than $30/year--in other words, what do you use?
2. How much does yours cost?
3. Is it reliable? Are they known to drop domains like GoDaddy?
4. Are they sneaky in that they register it under their name, instead of yours, so that in reality, they own your domain name?
5. Does cheaper always mean ******?

Thanks for the input!

Cheaper usually does mean ****** yes. The cheaper you go, the less support you usually get - and the more time it takes to get something fixed.

Personally, I use eNom. They are the best for people with a lot of domains. (enom.com)

If you only have a few, then godaddy would probably be best for you. (goaddy.com)

Stay away from itsyourdomain! Avoid them like the plague! And as always, be weary of any place offering free or extremely cheap domain names.

The only company for domains that I would reccommend is Namecheap. They are truly my favourite and I can always rely on them to ge things fixed ASAP. They try very hard and have a very easy-to-use control panel.

I am a big fan of enom - Great support - Even better pricing if you want to lay out a couple bucks for a 6.95 or 7.95 account.

Agreed.

In fact, I would rather go to eNom and pay the full retial pricing then go to namecheap. Just my opinion

After researching options here, this newbie went w/ godaddy.com and I survived the setup, liked the price, and have not had a problem - at least in the first few months.

Yeah, go daddy is good if you are just a normal every day guy who wants to register a few domains. Then they are great!

If you want to register a lot of domains, and have access to great reseller extras, or maybe make a few bucks of the sale of domain names - then I would recomend eNom.

It just depends on what you are looking for. Glad you got up and running :D

I'm looking for feedback mainly from people who've been with the company for a year of more, to get a realistic outlook on the pros and cons.
I've heard a lot of good things about DirectNIC.
Anyone here use them?

Mainly, I don't care about reselling or hosting.
I just want good but cheaper domain name registration.

eNom are one of the biggest. If you go with an enom reseller you can get registrations for around the 9 dollar mark.

At $30 a pop I think you could look at almost any company and they will be cheaper than that. Please look around and save yourself about $21 per domain per year.

I use www.******.com - have around 500 domains with them an no dramas so far.

Domains are $6.50, they have ICQ and MSN 24/7 support, accept paypal, have reseller interface, have api etc etc...

Why'd that get edited? Hm...

Yeah, I plan to look around a lot before deciding.

Thanks for the advice so far.

Dunno. WHT doesnt like some players. Id spell it out but then I would probably get some dopey *** penalty.

If they get edited out that means they are banned from WHT.

Did a search on the forum and it looks like they were spamming in the early days :)

Personally I just my self to reg domains :) But then I guess some of you guys dont have that luxury of being able to do it all yourselves.

My best advice, as others have already stated, is to shop arround. Check everywhere out. Even if you have to go to many different registrars and get one domain each there to test out with. Never take anyones praise or negative comments at face value if they have nothing constructive to say about the place. You almost want to find people who have problems there just to find out how they were delt with, and if they did it well and efficiently.

I would also recomend not going through a reseller. That means you pay more sure, but then you get support right from the registrar. Most benifical and worth it in my opinion.

I agree with what you're saying and appreciate it. :)

end user: namecheap or registerfly (both enom resellers)
reseller: enom or directi

if you're not american better to use namecheap since i've seen some cases international customers facing issues with registerfly suspicious fraud etc..

If you are an international customer, you may be better off using a reseller that does not use the eNom CC processing. But that is only if you are one of those 14 countries that eNom blocks the IPs of. - The russian blocks, pakistan, iran, iraq, isreal, you get the idea :)

Tucows provides programs to unknowing, trusting downloaders that contain spyware.
I think not.
