View Full Version : To MOVE or not to MOVE?

Hi all,

I just moved to ddihost.net , that's the only host I found to offer a reseller up to 300GB b/w....I hope they are not overselling.

The thing is my site is growing fast June 28 - 1,1GB a day b/w, June 29- 1,6GB a day b/w. So if I calculate at 1,6 rate it's like 50GB a moth of b/w and growing. That's why I'm not sure would moving to a dedicated be a better option for me(Windows server)? Also how would I find if a such b/w increase might be caused by some search bot? Would it show in Log file software?

Thanks,
N_F_S

Searchbots won't cause your bandwidth to rise by more than 1 GB usually. 300 GB bandwidth is way too big for a reseller account. Exponential site growth doesn't mean it will keep growing forever (unforunately for you :)), I would in fact recommend a server.

Well it does now, that's why I'm moving and changed 2 companies already. Regarding bots, I just saw another thread here where it says msn bot used 500Mb b/w, that's why I'm asking:)

If the company you are with can provide 300GB bandwidth and you are happy with them, why leave?

If you do opt to leave, you might want to consider a VPS system before a full blown dedicated server.

as Alec mentioned above, your bandwidth usage is still under limitation of your account, and if you're happy with your current host, dont leave. Going to dedicated server, you have to spend time for it.

<<(Windows Server?)>>
Rant time:

PLEASE tell me you mentioned this because you are selling windows hosting, not because you think a windows server will be easier to manage. It's not going to be.
First of all, you should only get a windows server for hosting if you do "windows hosting".
Second, if you are not comfortable managing your own server you should get a server that either you can addon management or you can buy management with the server.
Along those lines, also double check that it is real management... not this false management with low attention to security you see these days. Do a search if your interested in server management, there was recently a thread that was very helpful in this regard.

I am very sorry if I am coming across as harsh, but believe me, heeding this warning will save you lots of time in the future.
-- End the Ranting --

As far as the actual topic: Moving or not Moving.. My word of advice is never move on expected growth.

Thanks for reading my two cents.

Depending on the site. With one of our sites, only googlebot is adding about 10 GB every month with 100,000 pages only indexed. I even don't alow other bots to crawl the site. Not only because of the traffic, but mainly because of the CPU overload.
