Hi there,
I decided to use the following for my upcoming hosting site
modernbill and 2C0
are they enough to process credit cards or should it be
modernbill + 2C0 + authorize.net(I just couldn't understand what authorize.net is all about. I believe it is about showing your company name on the cardholders monthly bill and being able to process credit cards *from* your site and not being directed to 3rd party websites. The question is do I have to use authorize.net with 3rd party processors. I'm sorry I'm very tired and I just couldn't conjure enough willpower to do extensive research. I will look more into this tomorrow but a quick answer is appreciated greatly)
I also read something about the extensive downtime of 2CO. Do they have realtively low uptime guarantee?

2Co is a CC processor (actually *third* party) with it's own gateway.
Authorizenet.com is only a payment gateway - you would need your a processor as well.
With 2CO, their name appears on the CC statement, not yours. Your money is deposited to your checking account every 2 weeks.
With your own merchant account (payment gateway (Authorizenet.com, Verisign, LinkPoint) and a CC processor), then your name appears on the CC statement & usually your money is deposited into your checking account 24-48 hours.

thanks for answering corey
so when I use 2CO I won't need authorize.net since they have their own gateway.
And any words to say about uptime of 2CO

That is correct - when you use 2CO, they will supply the gateway & the processor.
I have seen some problems last year around Thanksgiving - they were getting soem DOS attacks, but I am do not think that it affected the sales in as much it did just their main website. (I might be wrong - I cannot remember.)
With 2CO being one of the larger *third party processors* out there, you are going to have people that 'hate' them as well as 'love' them. It just comes with any type of business.
You might try to do a search for 2CO / down on here & see what comes up. A lot of times, it is just an internet hiccup even but people are always jumping the gun & quick to blame someone else.

They have serious problems of DDoS attacks. Their service goes down suddenly and you are not informed. Once they were down for 4 days due to DDoS attack. No email support, but ticket system and turn around time is 2-3 days.

Honestly, I'm not sure if they even HAVE an uptime guarantee.
There are other concerns with 2checkout though. Do some research on the forums here (use the search function) and read the responses. In many cases, what users are saying is very true.

Thank you all for responding. I have one question left.
Do these DDOS attacks effect the 2CO website only or the whole gateway?

Merchant Area and sales servers become inaccessible. This means no sales are possible. The customer gets a server timeout or page not found error.
