Does anyone actually use a site map when they see it on a website?
I've never once used one...

Only when I'm looking for something such as a webcam.

Sometimes the terms & conditions of a sale can be hidden away so I have to find them on the site map. Its also a quick way of finding any page on the site (assuming they have made a good site map)

Very very rarely when I really can't find a certain page/info. The main purpose of a sitemap page nowadays is (although some might disagree with me) to make sure that all the pages get spidered by the search engines. The help in site usability is just a pleasurable side effect. ;)

On the other hand, it can be helpful for human visitors as well, especially on large sites and if you include a short description or title for each page.

Usually if the site's navigation can't get me to where I want, I will look for a site map.

I tend to look through a service / solutions sitemap to find out anything that isn't directly linked.

Sites such as Amazon I just use the search ;)
