View Full Version : Angelnetworks or Tomsyer
WHRKit 07-01-2004, 10:56 PM I'd like to compare those 2 providers. How is support from either one? How reliable are they? Both are very active in the offers forum and seem to be known by many folks.
Both seem to offer ThePlanet servers? Are those actually Dell machines (I saw that mentioned in another thread).
mainarea 07-01-2004, 11:01 PM AngelNetworkz can offer servers located in ThePlanet, but the ones listed on their site are for Managed.com in California. Tomsyer's servers are located in ThePlanet, but they are not working directly with ThePlanet for hardware, so they are not Dell machines (Dell will only do Intels).

I belive AngelNetworkz do not use TP hardware.
Imago 07-02-2004, 07:32 AM It seems that only the SCSI machines are Dell

That is correct. For their servers in ThePlanet, both AngelNetworkz and Tomsyer use other companies for the hardware and colocation space.

Defcon|Rich 07-02-2004, 09:44 AM You have to be careful when looking at Planet resellers, Some will promote the heck out of the idea they are 'housed' at thePlanet giving the casual reader the sense they are getting "the planet" but in reality you are getting yipes/he type bandwidth.. Not "lying" per se... Just giving the wrong impression..

TMS offers Yipes or HE as one option, but also has ThePlanet bandwidth now as an option too. If they say that they're housed in ThePlanet, that's not giving the wrong impression at all. They never claimed to have connectivity with ThePlanet until a few months ago when they got a connection. AngelNetworkz is offering ThePlanet bandwidth though for their latest ad... Texas. Co-located in The Planet DC. Their network will be used for these servers rather than the usual HE/Yipes we normally use.

Defcon|Rich 07-02-2004, 10:34 AM True but we both know there are providers that bury that info deep in their sites.. ;)
pizzaboy_au 07-02-2004, 11:15 AM If i remember correctly Tomsyer.net uses layeredtech.com as their dedicated server provider.

And LayeredTech uses Yipes if I'm not mistaken. My point exactly ;)
I have asked to tomsyer why they dont offer Redhat 9, and thet said motherboard isnt compatible with Redhat 9, only compatible with Fedora 1. What kind of motherboard he used right now ?
pizzaboy_au 07-02-2004, 11:50 AM I sent an email to Layeredtech.com now asking them about what companies does Layered Tech use for their Bandwidth inside of The Planet Datacenter?
They came back with this response:
Our network piggybacks on the following carriers within TP datacenter
Backbone Carriers
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - MCI/UUNET
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Time Warner
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Level 3
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Verio
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Global Crossing
2 Gbps Direct Fiber - Allegiance Telecom
2 Gbps Direct Fiber - AboveNet
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Sprint
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - AT&T
1 Gbps Direct Fiber - Broadwing
Defcon|Rich 07-02-2004, 11:55 AM I see this on their site...
GlobalCrossings , ATT, UUNet, Qwest, Internap, Cogent
Kind of unusual seeing InterNap next to cogent..

No, LayeredTech uses ThePlanet bandwidth. Tomsyer also uses ThePlanet bandwidth.

That's old information, from when ThePlanet used to use Cogent bandwidth (see http://www.askwebhosting.com/new/dedicatedserver/211/ThePlanet.com_Dedicated_SuperMicro_Dual_Xeon_2.4_Ghz_SCSI.html for old network info).

Defcon|Rich 07-02-2004, 12:56 PM I see. Thank you mainarea, I had someone ask me the other day about LayeredTech I pointed them at their website.
They should think about updating that.
geeks4help 07-02-2004, 02:18 PM I don't have experience with Tomsyer. AN is pretty decent. As I said in another thread, if you are a noob, you will love them.
swijaya0101 07-03-2004, 12:27 AM never had experience with Tomsyer ... but AN has been fantastic to me ...
there is a time that i accussed donna of lying ... :)
but after staying for the next 30 days, i can only say that AN is doing a wonderful job ... go with AN ... you wont regret :)
Defcon|Rich 07-03-2004, 12:31 AM Probably not a good idea to accuse your host of lying unless you already have your stuff backed up and packed up ;)
swijaya0101 07-03-2004, 12:47 AM x-gaming,
i am prepared to move :) ... but then i decide to stay another 30 days ... after having conversation with donna ...
and now i got no regret ... and would recommend AN anytime to people :D
mil22 07-03-2004, 01:12 AM We've had bad experiences with Angel - including unexplained downtime, miscommunications amongst the support people, and unclear terms and conditions - but Tomsyer may not be any better. Go with ServerMatrix if you can afford to, their support is top notch and they have a fast network.
Hello&Co 07-03-2004, 03:07 AM Having been with AngelNetworkz for 3? months now, I would have to say a few things...
IM support always just says to e-Mail - they don't actually provide much support. But on the upside - e-Mail support was almost instantanious.
Having 2 seperate Class C's (After initial install) turned into a rather large ordeal which almost cost us clients. Not AngelNetworks fault, all Managed.com's fault, however it really showed me that the better DC for my company at this time is The Planet.
To be fair, they made up for the ordeal , for that I would recommend them...

How would having two IP blocks turn into a big ordeal?
- Matt
Hello&Co 07-03-2004, 09:55 AM Well, I am not totally sure except that in addition to having the server pulled offline to install a second nic they took the original IP's away and changed all IP's on the server, so everyone had to propagate once again... They said their wasnt an open port on the switch to accomodate the 2 nics so they just decided to proceed with the switch over without notifying me.
TestMan 07-03-2004, 01:06 PM well....The Tomsyer Network doesn't offer redhat with cpanel anymore...
