Hi Everyone here,

If the domain name is under REDEMPTIONPERIOD period, is it possible for anyone to renew it or it should be only renewed by its original registrant?

Is there any authority information about this case?

Thanks very much!

Jonathan

Hello Jonathan, according to ICANN regulations, only the registrant of the domain could redeem domains in the redemption period...but most registrars would allow others to do the same

How about NSI? Does NSI allow others to renew such domain?

If you are under this situation and you want your domain back, then just contact them for help first; if they don't cooperate, then you might wanna tell them the ICANN thingy and what measures you might take later on.....sure registrars should abide by ICANN regulations....

If the domain is at netsol, you can redeem or renew the domain. Don't know about other registrars.

The Original owner can renew it or anyone can?

In redemption, only the original owner is supposed to be able to get it back. Although, nothing is stopping the previous owner from getting it back for some one else. . . . .

Well I am sure the Registrar has protection against allowing someone else from renewing during REDEMPTION, correct?

Most if not all registrars allow redemption of domain
names. There are basically 3 cons about this:

1. While a domain's in redemptionperiod, the registrar
will only re-register it back to the last account it was
under. They won't transfer it to a new or another
account anywhere else.

2. Only the registrar where it was last registered can
do this; thus, they decide how much to charge you.
NSI charges $150 while others can charge just as much.

3. If a domain's in pendingdelete (status after redemption),
that's when the registrar can't get it back anymore
(although they can try but it's 50-50).

can't renew a domain during pending delete period
