View Full Version : TemplateMonster Templates
SimsFreak 06-29-2004, 08:59 PM I just wanted to know if anyone knows if people look down or just ignore sites and go elsewhere if a TM template is used on there hosting site? Right now I cannot afford to hire or do my own design and was thinking of going with TM.
Thanks!

Thats what I did and I get a lot of clients and I have never had someone not sign up because of my template (Or I have never heard a complaint about it). I think its alright to go with a TM template for a while as long as you do have solid plans to get your own design soon.
AdWatcher-Boris 06-29-2004, 09:32 PM I guess the main disadvantage of the template is that you probably want portray a unique image of your company. Your website represents who you are on the Internet.
Templates are made for the masses, so they don't portray your image properly.
It's a personal choice, though.
* keep in mind that templates are not SEO optimized at all.

Nullified 06-29-2004, 09:34 PM Many people dislike templatemonster and good luck mentioning them here at wht or a few other forums.
hawk-hosting.com 06-29-2004, 09:45 PM I'm currently using one from template monster, One of my clients, is a designer and he's going to make me a professional template:cool:
Christina 06-29-2004, 10:10 PM But the same template for every host?? Come ON! At least fork out the cash for a unique customized template........but they all look a like as far as the hosting ones go....
It's kind of dis-heartening in a way to see such a good host along with some other 3 or 4 hosts with the same template....
So would you also perceive those other hosts as good too? Would you know any better if you're a newbie looking for some reliable hosting?
SoftWareRevue 06-29-2004, 10:17 PM You'll find that clients don't care much whether it's a TemplateMonster template, or not.
Other hosts? Well, that's a different subject.
hawk-hosting.com 06-29-2004, 10:17 PM I know most people have same one, I don't really think a template shows your clients what kinda company there gonna be buying from..
SimsFreak 06-29-2004, 10:20 PM Alright thanks guys, I am gonna go ahead and buy one and get a custom one soon. Thanks!
hawk-hosting.com 06-29-2004, 10:35 PM Good :), but of course there's still work you have to do lol
SimsFreak 06-29-2004, 11:33 PM Yup, I have so much work to do and this saved me alot of time! I still have to setup everyhting else!
Haddy 06-30-2004, 12:04 AM You may want to take advantage of their template tuning service as it can let you give the template a little bit more of a customized feel...
coight 06-30-2004, 04:48 AM I don't see anything wrong with it
helpdemos 06-30-2004, 05:26 AM There are millions of websites and thousands different webhosts, the chances of someone find website with same design is pretty small :)
hawk-hosting.com 06-30-2004, 07:59 AM They do include the .psd so you can edit it your self
pergesu 06-30-2004, 08:21 AM I've looked at way too many hosts over the past few months and have never once thought, "I wonder if that's a TM template." I don't think most people notice it at all. As long as it looks good and gets your point across, you're fine. You'll probably only take flack from other web hosts around here.
johnder 06-30-2004, 10:01 AM If you're starting out, and you can't do the design yourself, and you don't have a web designer who will do it for you, I think it's a fair choice. Buying a template from TM means your web site will look, at the very least, decent in comparison to many out there.
But again, there is a lack of originality inherent in templates. That's why they're templates.
When you look at it from a customer's perspective, unless a customer thinking of buying hosting from you has visited another web host with the exact same template, they wouldn't know your web site is from TM.
It's a decent way to start. Get your own design once business starts picking up.

code_renegade 06-30-2004, 11:05 AM I think it's fine, but you'd have to avoid those layouts featuring hyper-looking business suited people - it's almost as common as those featuring servers :D A different type of template, even if it's sold on a commercial website, can be easy to remember if it's unique.
Yaser 06-30-2004, 12:17 PM If i were to buy a template from TM i would either myself make some changes or head to www.templatetuning.com for changes.
Simplicity is beauty, give your site a corporate look and not look like their is a yardsale for servers which are placed in the images.
Convey your point through powerfull copywriting and similar images.

Dan Grossman 06-30-2004, 10:47 PM As long as you know how to edit the design, your clients won't know and it will probably help to have one of the nicer TM designs if you're not going to hire a designer.
SimsFreak 06-30-2004, 11:02 PM We have looked over this thread again and decided that we will go for a unique design of some sort, our budget is only around $50 but hopefully it will get us somewhere.
Thanks everyone!
Nullified 06-30-2004, 11:06 PM $50 USD won't get you much, but a scavanger here from wht which will make you a very very simple webpage consisting of about 5 different html tags. You'd be better off buying a tm design.

that amount would get you into http://www.boxedart.com that has tons of templates of all kinds including hosting.
Christina 07-01-2004, 12:39 AM You can get 1000's of templates on Ebay for under $30
Dan Grossman 07-01-2004, 12:41 AM There's not a single template in the BoxedArt library of the same par as some of the more recent TM templates. Definitely browse the templates and know what you want to buy before buying a membership to BoxedArt.
Yaser 07-01-2004, 12:53 AM In boxed art there are just replicated again and again, sometimes with different color schemes and sometimes with different navigation. I would recommend you go to TM and purchase a FULL SITE template, you would be better of with that then boxed art....
Yaser
SimsFreak 07-01-2004, 12:54 AM I already have a membership there lol. I just need more high quality stuff, not saying they have crappy layouts but for $50 you give access to pretty much anyone and all of these other hosts have them, but a $70 - $100 layout people don't buy it too much (tM layouts have 5-10 downloads on each)
Christina 07-01-2004, 01:02 AM That's the thing with Templates....you're most likely not the only owner unless you've gotten a complete custom design done.
WCHost 07-01-2004, 03:04 AM just a matter of interest....why...ppl look down on TM?
SimsFreak 07-01-2004, 06:44 PM Well here's what I got for $50, It's good for the price I think, just gotta entend it more down lol

Dan Grossman 07-01-2004, 07:00 PM If you like it, I suppose others might as well.
eservicesu 07-01-2004, 07:16 PM Sure alot of them LOOK nice, im not saying they dont. But the fact is that if your store looks the same as everyone elses how does that make you stand out? Your company web site is your online store. Be as different as possible.
