DFI CA64-EC Motherboard
Intel P3 866
128 MB RAM

Problem: Bought new Cyberpower computer back 6-7 months ago, ran great for 3 months, then died, would not start up, no noises or anything, finally got around to fixing it, so sent in board, got new board back......

1. Called support, told me maybe bad mobo
2. sent back
3. got new one
4. installed - same result

1. I noticed a little red light on the mobo everytime power is turned on and also the green light in front is on
2. also disconnected hd, figured maybe that was the cause, still nothing

Suggestions? Can it be the CPU thats causing the server not to turn on or the power source?

Thanks for any help

Maybe you should ask a mod to change the Subject of your post to "wife's dead computer"... I thought it was going to be a post about what to do with your wife's computer because she was dead. Glad to hear it's the computer that kicked.

Could be quite a few things causing that trouble. From what you write, it sounds like the 'puter isn't even posting. (Doesn't even bring up the "Press Delete to enter BIos" before loading the OS) Quite possibly a problem with the chip. Might be overheating - or it could be fried. Usually, problems with other pieces of hardware would show up later in the boot process. Even without a harddrive connected, it should still post - and then give you a bad HD error.

PS: no sounds no nothing, no fans turning on etc..

well, i popped in another cpu and restarted, same result, think its the power source?

Why would the lights on the mb and front burn if it wasnt the power? humm...

took out the power source, plugged it in and turned it on, shouldnt the fan come on no matter what?

guess it just might be the power source then

we get these all the time i mean all the time try flipping the circuit breaker on the power supply about 10 times if that dont work its probably a bad wire flip the power on and off a couple times the cpu fan should hit a fraction of a second when u do this. if it doesnt its probably the powersupply, if it does that then its usually a wire thats not connecting or is plugged in wrong on the mb, hope this helps some =)

o and btw on your thread title it says Dead wife's puter i saw that and thought uh ho.

See if your fan is not stuck.

I once had similar problem and it was fan problem.
It had too much dust and got stuck:D

Or, it could be bad fan.

But, again, I am not a hardware expert:)

Next time, you might be able to save the trip, but just licking one of the power cords inside the computer. Acually I know u will save a trip to the computer store at least.

If you lick any of the PSU cables, and feel like talking about it... I'd like to hear. Might make for an interesting story for my electronics class... :)
