how long of a setup time?

YourHost
06-29-2004, 08:25 PM
With the special going on it could take up to 36 hours. However if it is a normal install without a custom setup setup time can normally be within 24 hours, easy.

I am quoting the Server Matrix product. The TCS servers can take up to 48 hours.

Thank You

Do you have remote reboot ? and how much ?

YourHost
06-30-2004, 03:14 PM
The Total Control servers do have remote reboot available.

The Server Matrix servers are not available with a remote reboot option at this time. But very soon an option will make it's way to our customers.

Thank You

Does the SuperServer 2.4 come with hyperthreading?

Also will there be a special offer on the SuperServer 2.8 any time soon?
I don't want to buy the 2.4 only to find out that the 2.8 has $0 setup a couple of days later.

YourHost
06-30-2004, 08:26 PM
No. At this time the servers with hyperthreading are the 2.8, 3.0, XEON.

I do not forsee any specials on the 2.8 in the near future.

Thank You

Our new TP server has been setup within 16 hours. Moreover, instead of 2x80 HDD, we've got 2x120!!! Combined with the free setup, this is a real gift.

Worth mentioning is also the fact that in the first 12 hours, about 10 tickets have been created both by me and TP, which have been resolved in almost no time with great expertise.

is the 100Mbps connection burstable ? As long as I don't pass my bandwidth limit ?

YourHost

The 100Mbps does allow you to burst up to 100. As long as you do not pass your allocated bandwidth no overage charges will be encountered.

Thank You

Please next Monday have a free control panel special.

Need to get 6 servers off of nocster now and want to upgrade 8 rackshack 7.2 redhat servers.

Want to move content on all servers to servermatrix servers.

I've been waiting for a few weeks to try to get the free control panel special, but it isn't happening.

Servermatrix ROCKS !!! [/B][/QUOTE]

I started to think that when I ordered two servers yesterday morning.
I opted to pay the $299 setup on each, which is a bit tough, but I was pleased with the speed of response to tickets.
Both servers are up now, which is very quick indeed, but.....
When I emailed presales, I asked if I could have the servers in different racks....they said yes if I contacted them, they'd put a note on my order.
When I actually ordered, they were different specs, so I did two separate orders, referencing the other on each order and askinfg again for them to be in two different racks.
When I phoned to verify my order, I again stated I wanted them in two different racks, and was told "no problem".

Today, because the IP's were very close together, I ask for confirmation that they are in separate racks......and get told they are in the SAME rack and if I want one of em moved, it will be $75/hr (Est. 2hrs) to move it!!!!
This for a server I haven't even touched yet and I paid $299 setup fee. Apparently I should have ordered them about a week apart according to the respondent.
Outrageous. SM may be quick to respond and quick to setup, but they don't seem to tell clients one thing and actually do something else.

Is this normal with SM?

Very poor start to the relationship :(

ya im waiting for the free CP deal too ;(

Well, they just phoned me and tried to tell me the reason I wanted servers on two different racks is "silly" and no, they cannot move the server without incurring the move fee - unless I want to buy a new server with ANOTHER $299 setup fee.

The guy who answered my questions to sales@servermatix.com is not qualified to answer sales questions apparently.
I did not get the name of the guy I spoke to on the phone, so they "can't speak for them", so basically, it doesn't matter what you order, you get what you're given and tough :(

I thought american companies were very customer focused, but this appears not to be the case here.

When it became clear that SM were not interested in generating goodwill with customers, I offered to go half way and pay another $75 "move fee" in addition to the $598 setup fees already paid to have two servers on two different racks.
Would they agree to that? hell no.

The SM person hung up on me when I was trying to ask why they could not just give me a server they were setting up for someone else, and give someone else the server they allocated to me - that way they have two setup fees for two servers and everyone's happy.

It just goes to show - you can read all the good things in the world about a company but when it comes down to it, they can still treat their customers like sh*t.

My choices are now:
1. Accept that they did not give me what I asked and paid for and they said they could deliver
2. Pay $150 moving fee or another $299 setup fee to get a different server in another rack
3. Cancel the contract and lose $598 plus I guess a few days hosting.

Thanks ServerMatrix - you really know how to treat your customers :(

out of curiosity
why do u want to be on 2 different racks?

thebestdeal

maybe he wants IPs on two separate class c's so that he can host domains with extensions like .de and a few others.

the registrar for .de and a few other registrars will not let their clients change the nameservers for their domain name if both nameservers are on the same class c. this is ridiculous that these stupid registrars will not change the nameservers under any circumstances because of such a small thing as that.

I was going to order but when I went to that screen, they were trying to charge me $20 more then what was advertised here for a windows server (when here the price is $69 for ANY of the operating system listed on this thread post starter...)

Are they going to fix their page?

because if one rack goes down, either due to power or connectivity issues, then the other will hopefully still be up and clients can still contact me.

"That won't happen - trust us" from the company that said "sure we can do that for you" and then "those people aren't qualified to say that - pay us more money if you want it" only after I've already paid :(

It is not unknown for datacenters to have issues affecting only some racks and I wanted to minimise the effects of this - which in SM's opinion is a "silly" reason. Silly or not, I am the customer and that's what I wanted so they should have done what they said they would do or told me they couldn't do it at all.....

If you are as big as SM is, you are undoubtably going to have minor issues such as this come up. I have had 0 problems with SM or their sales/service. In fact, they have gone out of their way to accomodate requests.

I highly doubt that having a server in two different racks would help with a power outage. Most likely at the rate they are building out, you would have racks right next to each other anyway and if power goes out for one, most likely its going to go out for both.

If you truly need 100% uptime, I would suggest having a server in two different datacenters that both have really good uptime sla's for power and network. Having said that, I don't think you need to worry about power issues in The Planet's DCs.

warner2

I was more concerned about loss of connectivity to the rack than power outage.
It doesn't matter the reasoning though - the point is that SM treated me very badly by telling me they could do something twice (two different people), me confirming I wanted it done three times and then, when they do not do it, the want more money to remedy the situation.
I paid $600 in setup fees for two servers in two different racks - I was going to get one of them with another provider at theplanet with zero setup fees, but *thought* SM would treat me better getting the two there.

Okay, so they screwed up, and I was even willing to meet them 1/2 way and pay 1hrs moving fee instead of two, but they would not budge.
This is not good customer services IMO.
Nor is hanging up on a customer asking them simple questions.

I could cancel, sure - but I lose my $600 setup and they know it, so they've got no reason to give a crap about a small client like me.
