I'm looking into setting up a reseller package with United Hosting they seem to have a decent reputation for support etc. but of late there seems to have been a few issues mentioned on the forums that i have noticed. What i'd like to know is whether people that previously recommended them still stand by these recommendations after the server move.

Cheers.

from what i've read in the rest of these forums it seems that support is now extremely poor at united hosting as they have failed to scale their support structure alongside the expansion of their business. If anyone has noticed any recent improvement i'd appreciate any input.

I would have to agree. I have only read around these forums, never actually been with them but they had a good reputation and it has gone to seed, as they have expanded and not increased support to match the expansion

Given my findings on united i've decided to look elsewhere, from various recommendations on this board i think i've narrowed it down to these:

bluewho.com
httpme.com
clook.net
ultraunix.net

can anyone help me make my decision?

Thanks.

httpme have a good reputation. Would recommend hostrocket.com as they have a good reputation and also jolthost.com which I used and had no problem with at all.

the thing about httpme and blueWho tho is that they both have very poor websites, i know it shouldnt really but this is affecting my perception of them, anyone care to put me right?

I wouldn't sweat it w/ Matt and Co. at United Hosting.
Every host goes through rough times, and if they are indeed having one, Matt will resolve it and service will be back to levels everyone there is accustomed to, if not even better.

cheers for your input Esr Tek but the thing is that i need the support now, not the promise of good support. It seems that quite a few have lost confidence in them, saying that i have seen many comments from loyal customers to them and loyalty doesnt come easily with so much competition around. They were my initial first choice but as a web designer that will be inviting all current customers to relocate to this new server i need to be confident that their service will not suffer.

seengee ever heard of the phrase don't judge a book by it's cover? :)

of course, but my point is that i would expect a professional web based company to have a professional front end.

Actually, httpme is pretty well-known for having that design. I personally think it's pretty unique.

i suppose it is quite unique ;) i think it is the forum approach i find quite strange, especially for a home page, but maybe thats just me.

UnitedHosting is an excellent company, I havent seen complaints about them.

Matt runs the company quite well and they handle support excellent, also httpme is a very popular well known stable company.

We have a community based website. However, we appreciate this does not suit everyone's taste hence the running of multiple brands.

thanks for the input, i was unaware of the other branding. apologies if i have caused offence, as a web designer i can be overly critical about sites, kinda comes with the territory.

I used to host with UH and was very happy. I have heard they have had some server problems since the move and their uptime on those is not the greatest. From what I hear it's just a few servers but just bear that in mind.

Maybe try using the search function, I remember reading four negative reports in the last week.

I can also vouch that HTTPme.com is top notch. I wouldn't judge them because they have a clean, uncluttered, and simple main web site. If I want pretty I visit midPhase or Dinix websites.

I would also check out clook.net (http://www.clook.net/) which has an awesome designed web site and their servers/support/uptime are awesome.

It's a model that works and works extremely well, if you can work the model. Some folks don't understand it, but that's fine. The function of a website is to provide a platform for 2 way interaction, and not just the presentation of information and flashing buttons. :)

As a clook customer, I cannot recommend them highly enough - good packages, value for money, RELIABLE, fantastic support, helpful and friendly staff who will go the extra mile for you.

cheers for your input Esr Tek but the thing is that i need the support now

Our support is available "now". The server moves hit us hard, but was all well worth it. Even though we are still improving the support infrastructure, it still tops most other hosts out there.

i'm kinda looking now at UltraUnix, they seem to have great support and their prices (7gb storage, 55gb bandwidth for $24.99 a month) are almost half that of everyone else but with double the capacity. I am a little concerned though by the fact that they are so cheap compared to most other hosts. "Too good to be true" springs to mind, are there any current UltraUnix users out there that can help convince me? (preferably with more than one post ;))

Thanks.

it seems to me tho that www.ultraunix.net doesnt actually run that fast, can anyone confirm anything about the speed of their hosting please?.

They seem ok over here in the UK. Loaded at an average speed

seengee

i'm in the UK too and it doenst seem great to be honest, i'm in the process of trying to track down some sites that they host to check the speed. I'm not too up on things related to the speed of the internet internationally and what's where or whats needed. UltraUnix is based in Malaysia, what factors should i be looking for to determine how fast they are?

thanks.

correction: i've been informed by Wong that my sites would be hosted at NAC in New Jersey, any thoughts on this?.

Maybe start a thread about Ultraunix, this topic probably isnt attracting their clients.

so far ultraunix has been notch, support espcially.

I can get instant answers from any queries I have from Wong on MSN if he's around.

Anyways, unless i'm mistaken they have servers in 3 locations. 2 of which are in the US and 1 in Malaysia.

NAC has excellent connectivity. UltraUnix's servers are probably with Pwebtech and they have great servers, great hardware and a great support team backing up the whole operation. I can't sing high enough praises for that company (Pwebtech). :)

Our website is loading not as fast as other sites due to massive java scripts installed, we are coming out with a new site with less scripts to improve the average loading speed.

If you need other sites for reference or enquiries, please feel free to contact us. Its better we take this privately.
