View Full Version : IE6 $ucks!
iwannabe 12-15-2001, 08:51 PM I just upgraded IE5.5 to 6 and it's really piece of ...
Everything loads so slowwwwwwww.
Not just brower.
Before upgrade, I have about 250+ MB free memory right after bootup.
Now, I only have about 170 MB free memory.:bawling:
It took me some time to get use to IE from Netscape.
I hear Netscape is still garbage.
well, I guess I gotta start using Opera and BroadPage.
Does anyone have anything good to say about IE6?
Rewdog 12-15-2001, 09:03 PM I'm quite glad I haven't upgraded from IE 5.5 yet. I have no major problems with it, so didn't see the need for upgrade.

Heh, I just upgraded tonight.
And I already regret it and will probably never use IE again.
It's just darn too slow.
netsolutions 12-15-2001, 11:24 PM It's slow and has annoying features on it.

(you'd think MS would have the security problems fixed in IE by now...)

Hello Opera:D I guess I'm just used to IE. Because I really like Opera (it is the fastest browser on earth). But, I only use it when I get tired of fighting with Explorer.
bitserve 12-16-2001, 05:33 PM I'm sticking with 5.5. I personally only know one person that has upgraded to 6.0.
There was one neat feature that he showed me, something regarding cookies, maybe? I forget.
cmoats 12-16-2001, 05:54 PM I can live with IE 5 and 5.5. So I will not upgrade to 6.
Thanks for the warning.

Good for you.
Don't never get IE6.
It's pure garbage:angry:
I downloaded it the other day and it works fine for me. No problems so far :) Crashes a lot less than IE 5.5, too.

What kind of OS do you have?
How much memory?
I have win98 with all the patches with 384 MB memory.
I rarely had crashes with IE5.5
Now, IE6 never crashes because...
I never use it:D
davidb 12-16-2001, 11:10 PM I have had no problems with ie 6, I have only used IE and netscape, and man netscape sucks
klisis 12-16-2001, 11:18 PM hm, no problem with IE 6.
no problem with opera, either.
but I guess some do want to bash MS.
It used to be "IE sucks! Netscape rules!". Now it's "IE sucks Opera rules!".
Hey what's next?
IE sucks! Mozilla rules! :D
I surf with IE6, and asides from the cookies, there really isn't much to shake a stick at. Unless you like all them purty scrollbars (was on IE5 beforehand).
ProSam 12-16-2001, 11:42 PM I use IE 6 with almost no problems. I did have a lot of crashes when i was using WIn98. Now that I'm using Win2K I only get crashes if I have a zillion windows open (Yup, I've tried it).
I use Netscape just to compare a websites look in it, that's about it. I don't like the fact that the free version of opera has banners so I really was never interested in downloading it.

Hey what's next?
I don't bash MS.
I just bash IE6.
I don't bash IE6 just for sake of bashing.
I bash it cause it's crap.
I had no problem with IE5.5:(
By the way, what OS do you have?
Does anyone know how to uninstall IE6 safely and easily?
klisis 12-17-2001, 12:17 AM well, I got a little carried away and I am sorry.
But IE is a fine program. Bashing the program is bashing those who worked hard for it. At least give them some credit and don't call it crap.
You can go back to IE 5.5. There is an option for restoring old config. (I forgot HOW though)
I use xp pro with IE 6. I have had 2 or 3 crashes during 2 months or so.

No apology necessary.
It's just that IE6 drastically slowed my computer:(
And eats chunk of my memory:(
Perhaps it's time for me to upgrade OS to XP?
But, all my friends say don't upgrade to XP.
Klisis, how do you like XP?
Do you think XP and IE6 will work better?
You see, I am not bashing MS.
I am even considering XP:D
Doesn't anyone know how to go back to IE5.5,
so, I don't have to bash IE6?
klisis 12-17-2001, 12:47 AM I upgraded over win 98SE.
All those crashes I had been having form 98 SE are gone.
Since MS said that IE 6.x series is the core technology for XP, I guess IE 6.x is bound to be stable on XP.
Basically, I like my XP pro but don't except old problems(hardware) work on XP.
I think when you choose uninstall IE 6, you can options for restoring old config which is , for you, IE 5.5

prosayist 12-17-2001, 01:00 AM control panel--> add remove programs --> microsoft internet explorer 6 should present an option to restore previous installation of internet explorer
Personally, I've not upgraded from 5.5 simply for the (evidently proven) fact that every new release of something by Macroshaft seems to come with a whole new set of problems and I'm happy dealing with the problems that I have.. wished I'd never 'upgraded' from 5.01. Nowadays, I use Mozilla for browsing forums as the option to open threads in different tabs is so much more stable to my W98 monster than opening 300 windows and basically keep IE just for the google toolbar :)

That's it?
How can it be so simple?
Heh, I'll just backup everything before I do that:D
What google toolbar?
You mean, google search on menu bar?
It's on Opera as well :)

Come on, let them make couple of pennies off you ;-)
By the way, I speed up the Internet connection by tweaking
Registry ;-) I have cable modem, so, I made it to connect
up to 6 instances at the same time.
I did it because of IE6.
This didn't make any difference for IE6.
But, I see dramatic speed increase with other browsers,
email clients and such ;-)
So, I got something good because of IE6:D
