I am in the process of creating my web hosting company and would like to prepare in advance to protect myself from fraud orders. I know they exist and would like to know how I can protect against them before they happen.

Can you please tell me what methods your company uses to protect itself?

Also, I have heard of checking emails, cc, and ip address for validity. Can you please tell me what you use to do this?

Thanks, Ian

Usually IP address is listed.
Just check via visual route to see if its actually pointing to the location he provided you.

If you really want, you can call him up when you get the number during signup. =)

There would not be a foolproof method of removing frauds all together but you could minimize it.

1) Do not enable automated account set up so this should give you the time to verify the order to check if anything seems fishy. You know things like email from iran with a US billing address. Check the IP to see if it matches the mailing address.

2) If they have an existing domain name, you could do a DNS check on it to see the ownership of the domain name and see if it matches that on the card.

3) Using the domain name, you could do a google check to see if there is an existing site which you could view the contents.

4) Check newsgroups, WHT and so on about the owner and domain name to see if anything fishy appears.

If in doubt, call the customer.

I am sure it will have some sort of tracking of IP or where it came from.

Also beware of the phone numbers they provide, a good way of confirming orders is to call up the provided number and ask the reciever to walk through with you the details of the order placed.

Another possible way is by asking the suspicious orders to fax/scan you the copy of credit card.

Thanks,
