View Full Version : Do you find this annoying?
Locutus 12-15-2001, 05:55 PM I take it every host here keeps their eye on the requests section.
Just wondering, am I the only one that gets really annoyed when people post absolutely ridiculous requests?
Example - someone wanting at least 200mb, 4Gb and 5 mysql databases at 30mb each for maximum of $70 per year?
The majority of the posts are of similar requests to the above. Makes me think whether I should just stop looking at the requests forum
cyansmoker 12-15-2001, 06:46 PM Not annoyed; it just made me stop answering these requests.
Funny thing is I just read this request and thought something like "Oh, bugger, another one who needs a reality check".
Then I thought: "Our rates are so low already, if we would go any lower we would have to quit offering any support".
And finally: "Well, if they find somebody willing to host them with all these features, good for them!"
SoftWareRevue 12-15-2001, 06:53 PM I don't find it annoying at all.
Although, I have to admit, I don't look through there very often.
When I do look, if I see something that looks like we could help; I answer.
If I don't see anything; I don't answer.

And yes, it sometimes annoys me. I hardly ever make on offer because what they ask for just cannot be matched within reason.
However sometimes there are some realistic requests and I've gotten more then just a few happy customers from the requests forum.
cmoats 12-15-2001, 07:38 PM Requests section? (j/k).
bitserve 12-15-2001, 07:45 PM I don't find it so much annoying as amusing.
I often wonder if they get any offers.
"Hi, i run a non-profit web site..."
Because you don't make money with the site, you want it hosted for free? That's too funny. :D

NO!
I very seldom venture down the advertising section.
And now that I think about it, I have never replied with an offer (and most probably never will) to someone that posts in the requests section.
netsolutions 12-15-2001, 10:38 PM We pretty much offer that service so how do you figure it's annoying?
Pilgrim 12-15-2001, 10:52 PM Well, if not annoying, then try the word frustrating.
You don't feel a little frustration about all those posts that ask for 20 GB transfer, 1 GB harddisk, unlimited MySql databases, 30 subdomains but not willing to pay more then $ 50.- per yr?
allending 12-15-2001, 11:10 PM I dont find it half as annoying as those who get one of rackshacks $99 servers, and try to resell it for $300 a month + trying to cover the fact that they are using rackshack...
netsolutions 12-15-2001, 11:20 PM Yes that would definatley be very annoying
SoftWareRevue 12-16-2001, 12:45 PM Here you go. ;)
I just don't answer threads like this (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29115)
But, I'm not annoyed that I read it. It's one reason I wish replies were enabled in the Requests forum though; so that you could help someone work out an alternative.

And if you take them as your customer, you too will become non-profit.
:D

Yes, it DOES .. not so much the values you just posted, but people are becoming rediculous in their requests .. they want dual CPU servers for 99 bucks, and top of the line bandwidth for 90 cents a gig
and then there are those who now offer cogent for pennies and say "when we get more clients, we will move you on level 3 or MCI" .. yeah right .. !!! pure deception as the prices dont' compare.
and on, and on .. blah

I believe requests are currently enabled... as I have seen a few replies in there of late.
Could MattF / one of the mods clarify on the position of this, and if hosting companies are allowed to reply with offers?
Regards
Matt
Locutus 12-16-2001, 06:07 PM I think annoying was the wrong word to use
Maybe a mix between funny and frustrating
