View Full Version : constant signature violations! i dont get it!

i repeatedly get warnings and points for signature violations, the most recent said...

URLs or other forms of advertising (phone numbers, plans, contact details, etc.) are not allowed in signatures.

however, id say about 75% of signatures here contain contact information and ive seen several posters who have links to their pricing plan.

WHY are some people allowed to do this?

by the way, my signature did NOT contain any contact info!!!

i want further clarification on this!!!!

Signatures:
Must be setup in your profile, and not manually added to your messages.
May not contain any pricing, plan, sales, server, network, etc. details.
May contain a maximum of two smilies. Or one animated smiley.
May include two clickable links.
May include two colors.
Maximum font size cannot be larger than normal.
Must be kept to a maximum of four lines (at 1024 resolution).
May not contain links to other threads or posts.
Your signature is your signature. It is not for sale or rent.
We reserve the right to ask you to change and/or remove your signature at any time, for any reason.

I did not know you weren't allowed to have contact information in your signature?

Project X
06-26-2004, 01:23 PM
honestly, you were the first person that i thought of :)

not in a bad way, but because i see a lot of your posts and noticed your info!

you are NOT the only one who does this! again, id say most people here have their contact info in their signatures.

i was told that contact info such as AIM names etc MUST be in your profile and not in your signature.

im starting to think that people like me are being singled out, or perhaps reported by someone??

It's not against those rules to put contact info in your signature...

Project X

its very confusing to say the least!

it says this

URLs or other forms of advertising (phone numbers, plans, contact details, etc.) are not allowed in custom user titles, which is limited to 25 characters. Also, members may not use custom titles to impersonate, or attempt to impersonate, WHT Staff or user groups.

i want my points reduced because i have NOT violated this at all!

I'm not sure. I don't see anything about contact information in the rules. But I could understand where the moderators are coming from, so I've cleaned up my sig a bit.

Lauren, that deals with Usertitles, not signatures. There are several folks that have their contact information in their signatures. IF I am reading the rules correctly, that is perfectly fine.

Project X
06-26-2004, 01:32 PM
actually, now that i think about it, whoever warned me cut and pasted what it said about user titles and deleted the word title and added signature!

how wrong is THAT!

Lauren, if you have an issue about a warn, take it to the helpdesk, please.

Project X

just to reiterate, this is the warning and email i received from wht

URLs or other forms of advertising (phone numbers, plans, contact details, etc.) are not allowed in signatures.

douglas, i am trying to get some general clarification on the rules here, this is why i posted it in this category.

wht feedback and wht questions

Right, however, this seems to be dealing with the warning that you received, which is why it really does need to be in the helpdesk.

Project X
06-26-2004, 01:40 PM
i did email the helpdesk before and it was bounced.

also, i believe my post is relevent and helpful to the users here if just for clarification. that is, unless im the only person being warned and banned for this.

if youd like to help facilitate the helpdesk thing, id be glad to participate.

Lauren I did not find a ticket from you. Please try again.

The forum rules at this time do not restrict contact information or urls.

Lauren, I quoted the wrong section of the rules in the warning and apologize for that. The section I meant to quote was, "May not contain any pricing, plan, sales, server, network, etc. details." I'm sorry for this confusion.

I'm not sure LaurenStephens, but It might be "cpanel-fantastico-unlimited mysql-aim support-paypal-money order-western union-cash" in your signature that might be in question. But not sure, just trying to help out.

Project X

Yes, this has happened to me twice!! Once on a signature and once for telling some one to check their PM! Its quite lame that I got nailed for something a few days back - and the person who posted in the same thread had that same thing in their sig and I got in trouble but he didnt!

The mods need to be less exclusive on who the rules apply to.

Did you contact that person to see if he/she had been warned?

BTW I suggest you take a look at the rules and your sig, it is in violation again, before someone else spots it and gives you another warning ;)

Whats in violation now? I have the same sig almost as a few others do - and they have had it for quite some time now!

May include two clickable links

If you see someone that is in violation use the report a post link.

Currently there is 3 clickable links. Simply removing one of the links or making it not clickable will make it legal.

Well WHT "legal". It's not like the cops are gonna come smash down your door or anything, for a sig violation. :D

It would be easier to actually read, re-read, have a friend explain the rules to you then to start this thread, surely?

Admittedly there are quite a few rules, but they are relatively simple and anyone over the COPPA minimum age should be able to follow them.

The user title is the phrase/text displayed directly under your user name.
