hey,

im just woundering about the useage of ram, psu power on a dedicated web server. like for every 100mhz cpu you get how 50mb of ram or somthing. on avrage, i know this will vairy alot buy the websites hosted and other factors :) so like if i got a 1ghz i would get 512mb of ram and the resorces would be both be well used (cant spell the word i wanted (utrealised?))

Thanks Heaps

There is no direct relationship between CPU speed and RAM usage. RAM and CPU usage largely depend on your applications and underlying OS. I have seen systems with Quad Xeon Processors be limited by memory and systems with 4GB of RAM be limited by CPU. I've also seen systems with lowly PII 350's and 256MB of ram serve millions of pages.

For most web servers, I recommend 1GB of RAM, especially if you are running any type of control panel or database. Note that the Raq 4's will now take up to 1GB of RAM with the latest kernel.

i assume that the avrage site would be like a phpnuke, as thats what heaps of them tend to be, database driven, with a few pics and junk on each page.

Im also planning to use CPanel as a controle panel.

Thanks heaps
