View Full Version : Transferring Domains From Hostway

Hi,

I'm trying to transfer a domain to GoDaddy from Hostway (herrvinny.com). I'm having a bit of trouble doing so.

I sent an email to Hostway support asking them to unlock my domain so I could transfer it, and they did so. But now that I ask GoDaddy to initiate the transfer, GoDaddy returns with an error, saying that it can't find the whois information for herrvinny.com. I checked with Whois.org, Network Solutions, GoDaddy, and Tucows whois services, and none of them can find the whois information for herrvinny.com. Tucows responds with an error that it can't contact whois.aaaq .com.

Now, I know herrvinny.com had a whois record before I asked Hostway to unlock it (that's where I saw the Registrar_LOCK status, and why I emailed them to unlock it).

So, could someone help me out? I pinged whois.aaaq .com, and they seem to be returning with a healthy ping, however, http://whois.aaaq. com/ returns an Under Construction page.

Is the aaaq whois server down, or is a Hostway problem, or both? It would be terrific if a Hostway or aaaq rep could weigh in.

I'm including both the Hostway email (unlocking the domain) and the GoDaddy email (unable to transfer) below.

Thanks.

Hostway:

Hello,

We have unlocked your herrvinny.com domain. You can now transfer the
domain to GoDaddy. Please let us know if you experience any further
problems.

Thank you.

GoDaddy:
Dear Valued Customer,

You recently purchased a domain registrar transfer for:
HERRVINNY.COM

In order to complete this transfer we must have the approval of the administrative contact for this domain name. However, the administrative email address obtained from your current registrar does not appear to be valid, or could not be obtained.

After you update the administrative email address on file for this domain at your current registrar, you may retry this transfer:

1. Go to https://www.godaddy .com/gdshop/shopper_lookup.asp\?prog_id= GoDaddy&isc=w wbb6 and log in with your username and password.

2. Click on "Pending Domain Transfers" from the list on the Account Manager page, or from the Domain Names dropdown at the top navigation.

3. Select the transaction and click Resend Notification.

If clicking the link doesn't work, copy and
paste the ENTIRE link into your browser's address bar.

====================================================
IMPORTANT: If you are transferring a domain that is .info, .biz, .us or .org, you must contact your current registrar for an authorization code.
====================================================

Please DO NOT try to re-order the transfer. If you need additional assistance, contact our support team at: support@ godaddy.com

Sincerely,
GoDaddy.com

By the way, if anyone's wondering, Hostway is a terrific hosting company. I'm just transferring to GoDaddy because sooner or later my funding situation will become critical, and I won't have enough money to pay for web hosting anymore.

Thanks again.

Is this domain registered to you personally, or to Hostway? In other words, what name is on the admin contact?

It seems AAAQ (Hostway) Whois server is down...

Tell GoDaddy support to try to obtain Whois data from:

https://order.hostway.com/pas/d/SiteControl/Manager/Public/OrderFormSystem/WebHosting/DomainNameSearch?profile=external_profile&path=domain_name_registration

Note: I would never register a domain name with Hostway... their support is horrible when it comes to domain names.

Good luck!

It sucks many registrars do not have working whois ports. I had a few names I moved from domainbank a while ago and they block the whois to avoid registrars from getting the contact info to transfer.

The domain is registered to me personally, at least before the whois server went down.

Thanks for the link. That site can't find the whois data too, but I'll send the link to GoDaddy support.

GoDaddy sent me the email using the email that I registered as my GoDaddy contact address in the registration. GoDaddy doesn't know the admin address for the domain, which is a different email account controlled by myself.

Thanks everybody again for the tips.
