A quick question on transfering domain registrars. Let's say you have a domain that expires 2003, and decide to transfer it now to another registrar. Do you lose the time from now until this date, and have to pay again for it or not? Thanks,

Are you wanting to actually switch domain companies and go from like network solutions to say namesarecheap.com, or are you switching web hosts?

If you are switching registrars then yes I believe you will lose the years you paid for from the original company, and still have to pay for the new company

If you are just transfering your domain to a new host, unless the host requires you to pay for the transfer, there should be no cost in just changing nameservers.

That depends on the registrar you are transferring to. When I recently transferred my registrar, I was only required to pay for an extra year which was added to the time that I had already paid to the previous registrar. Hope this helps.

No, you will not lose that time. You will have to pay for at least one additional year at the new registrar, but you won't lose the years you've already paid for even if those years were paid to a previous registrar. This is an ICANN rule, and all registrars must follow it.

Wow, so many replies so quickly...thanks :) It's good to know I wouldn't lose the time I've already paid for...for one domain, it's over 3 years.

I'll ready the beating stick just in case we need it (like the L.A.P.D. we tend to use it, even on defenseless old people).

Anyone here about I think it was the LAPD, but anyways they were called to a halloween party because it was to loud or something and one of the officers saw a guy behind a glass door point something at him, so he shot and killed the guy and it turns out the guys was pointing a plastic gun as he was in halloween costume.

Yep, don't point plastic guns at the LAPD, even in during Halloween! Contoversy? LAPD? My, my, something new? You'd probably be shot if you threatened them with a spoon. I live here though and must say, it isn't a job I'd want.

I have several clients who transfered their domains from Netsol/Joker/Totalnic to OpenSRS.

One year renewal fee will add one year to the existing expiration date. No matter how early you transfer your domain.

Sorry, my grammar is not good :p

Thx.
