Is it possible to be able to create a new hosting account/package which does not offer CPanel to the customer?
OR
Is it possible to prevent some customers from accessing the URL 'www.domainname.com/cpanel'?
My intention is to be able to provide hosting accounts for some customers with CPanel and for some customers without CPanel. Note: All customers reside on the same server.
Can anybody throw light on this?

I'm not sure - however, if you don't give them the password to the control panel, that should essentially have the same the effect, no?

i need to give them ftp login password for the main account however... wouldn't that be the same for cpanel login also? or can i change the FTP login password for the main account?
i am assuming the client knows about the '/cpanel' suffix to a url.

Well, you can log into the clients cpanel account (without giving them the username/password etails) and add an FTP account that will gain them privileges via FTP but that's it.
They shouldn't be able to get into cPanel even though they'll be able to get into FTP.

You could also create a custom template... consisting of only a single html page with the message "You do not have CPanel access!" in the body. That way, you can still supply them with their master account information.

i am assuming that you are advising to upload this single html page as a replacement of cpanel's default index page? is that correct? if so...
...in which folder should i upload this single html page? when cpanel updates itself automatically, will this single html page still continue to function?

i am assuming that you are advising to upload this single html page as a replacement of cpanel's default index page? is that correct? if so... No, that would be a very bad idea, and eliminate the default theme. He is talking I believe about creating a brand new template made by you using WHM, then selecting that template for those clients when setting up the packages.

Disable all features but FTP in WHM, maybe you can try this.

@adaptivehost: does WHM allow creating a brand new template for Cpanel? if so, where is the link? what's it called?
@cyberultra: i tried your suggestion i.e disabling all features but FTP in WHM, but Cpanel still shows up.
