I just created a thread just before I went to supper, and the last time I viewed it I had 6 view now when I come back my thread was deleted here is where the thread was locate http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28862

I was commenting on a thread where it appeared that two or three indivduals were making a big deal about how this great hosting company is, http://webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28316

This thread appears to be just a large advertisement perpatrated by the same character, and they all seem to have the same opinion and the writing styles are the same. I just thought I would ask everyone in the lounge what they think and then I left for supper and when I come back my thread had been deleted. I can not for see for any reason why a moderator would do this unless they had something to lose by me making this statement.

While I'm not a moderator, I'd guess that if things happened as you described someone removed your thread because it's not the best way to handle the situation. If there's advertising or deceptive reviews or whatever in a thread, what's to be gained by starting another thread to argue about it? Your best bet is to use the "report this post" button on the thread in question. General users' opinions on the thread aren't important; the moderators' opinions are. Report it to them.

Just yesterday in fact I did that with a post that contained advertising; the post had disappeared this morning.

indeed the missing thread has been thrown by somebody (not sure who, i havent checked)

I cant find any similarities between any of the users in the mentioned thread, ive looked at IP's, usernames, continents, everything, and im pretty happy they are different people.

if they are the same then there is no way of proving it unfortunately.

all IP's are different, join dates differ, domain owners differ, even the traceroute of the IP's point to different continents.

We ask that all members securely fasten their tin-foil hats and jump to the conclusion that any edits/removals are directly related to some sort of cover-up or conspiracy. Usually, this is the case, so it is safe to assume this to be so.

Per the email that was sent to you, if you see something that looks off, as Jayc Jedi said, please report the post. We'll look at it.

Your suspicions about a thread aren't up for debate, and the members will not be able to run traces and investigate the matter, so there is no point in asking them what they think (though you are free to ask someone of course, just do it via PM/EMail/Chat instead of on the forum as a thread). I saw you post, investigated the matter, and emailed you, removed thread.

If you have a question about why a thread was removed, *again* please email the moderators directly as this isn't something that can be discussed either. You will get a reply via email.

None of this is to hide anything, it is just to keep member > moderator discussion off the forum. If you are wrong about that post, then the members in that thread will resent you (rightly so), and there is no need for that. I always tell people, if you see something that doesn't look right, report it. Let them hate us, not you. We've had problems with members retaliating for comments posted by other members, and we'd like to avoid this.
