Wow! .... I would get this , except for the RDRAM ;(
Get-Hosted.com 12-13-2001, 10:57 PM Ouch... gotta kill it with the RDRAM. Probably doesn't even perform that well with the slow bus speed of this proc.
RDRam needs a fast bus to take advantage, like the 400Mhz of the P4. Not to mention it's a dead upgrade path, and it might only hold 512MB ram.
Other then that... good deal!
:D :stickout :D

I think it is a great price.

I don't know if they're still around, but Packard Bell, or AST. :erm:
scott2 12-14-2001, 04:43 PM Yup, you're right. I had a Packard Bell Pentium 100... the only computer to ever overheat while I was workin. I had to turn it off after a few hours and let it cool down and then it would run fine, and of course, no room to add another fan. The floppy drive even quit. Luckily, they stopped making compters.
But Compaq is running a close second as far as loading in the really cheap hardware, horrible 'add on' junk to bloat out the OS, and then really crappy support to top it off. :puke:

Well I work for a top pharmacy company that is fortune 500 and is widely recognized across the board. The company uses the Compaq Deskpro 1GHZ integrated machines with small form factor cases and the Armada M700 laptop with the EN docking stations. We also are using the the EN 400 travel laptops. Along with the Compaq IPAQ 3870
So this big company, don't want to name the company, but does buy a ton of Compaq stuff, along with my actual employer (I am contracted out to this big pharamcy company) uses all compaq stuff.

hostgold 12-14-2001, 07:33 PM My Second PC was a Packard Bell 486 sx with 4 megs of ram running dos 6.22 and windows for workgroups 3.11 I still have this machine have made no updates have never had to replace any hardware, still runs like a beaut. Even the monitor is like in mint condition I ran this computer ragged for close to three years and it never skipped a beat. If memory serves my correctly I got this system back in spring of 93. So not all packard bells were junk maybe you just didn't know how to treat her.
cmoats 12-14-2001, 07:51 PM Wow! That was also my second pc
bitserve 12-15-2001, 11:44 AM When I was in the army, my room mate got a packard bell even though I warned him not to. Most of the components needed to be replaced within a year.
Then, my parents bought one for their first PC. I didn't even know my parents wanted a computer. They called me up and said "We bought a new computer". Turns out that this one ran for over a year before the motherboard went bad.
This was awhile ago, of course.
Packard bell and Compaq aren't necessarily bad because they died real fast. They're bad because of the incredibly cheap, and totally integrated components that they use. Makes it hard to repair/upgrade. Also, their technical support was terrible.
But Compaq machines are cheap, so you get what you paid for I guess.
Of course their server class machines have never been cheap, and has very expensive support. So I guess you get what you paid for there, too.
