I thought it wasn't cool to close that thread. Nothing bad was going on there and it was all harmless fun.

But that's just my opinion...:cartman:

Yeah, what was xstrike thinking?
Now these guys are going to be out on the internet causing who-know-what kind of trouble, instead of inside this nice, friendly thread. You know, kids just aren't what they used to be these days.

I agree.
It was a lounge within a lounge.
Somewhere to voice your opinion about anything.
Sometimes it was stupid, sometimes it was fun, and sometimes it was even interesting.
I hate to see it go.

Too bad.

I would suggest that, if you don't agree with moderation, to contact them off board.

Just be careful what you say off board too.

This is actually outlined in the forum guidelines (has been since as long as I can remember). Shouldn't be such a shocker to people, but it is for some odd reason...

We take the "be polite" rule VERY seriously! We do not tolerate ANY rudeness. Any member who is intentionally unpleasant or disruptive will receive one warning, and will be permanently banned from WebHostingTalk after a second offense.

Well, the chicken has to run out for a staff holiday party, and won't be around until tomorrow sometime. If you have a concern, I'd email xtsrike directly and ask for the thread to be reopened. Sorry, I just had about 5 minutes and now just burnt all of the red folders (cookies) on the forum (DOH!).

I don't agree with that. I mean what defines a pointless thread. I could say that threads saying Merry Christmas and threads saying jokes and stuff are pointless threads. After all they don't provide you with anymore knowledge or anything. Just my two cents.

Bogdan
12-13-2001, 09:21 PM
A pointless thread is a thread with no meaning to it, nor has a subject to discuss. What is thread with 'post if viewed' going to accomplish?

Let's just get rid of the entire WH Lounge forum then, since 80% of discussions here are "pointless".

Not all things have to have a "point" for it to be discussed. People are here for fun and to socialize with each other. I mean just look at all the negative reactions closing that thread has already drawn.

damn people i didnt know you had such feelings for the thread, hehe

i just seen it getting a little HUGE - id seen people reply and it went pretty much the same as the other threads that you "must reply to" where they just fizzle out, but a few people on the board, who will remain anonymous :) were abusing it and posting almost hourly into the thread, if i were to go in and take all the duplicates out of the thread i would reopen it, but de-duplicating over 800 posts would be as bad as wax hair removal treatment to the genitals

Ok, for those that have their reservations on why the thread was closed (and ill explain publicly)

I have spent a few minutes tallying the content of the thread with over 800 posts and found the following when i reached page 8 of the thread:

one web x 47
Rewdog x 41
netsolutions x 44

Total 132

should i go on ? lets just say each of these people has posted almost 100 times to the ONE thread, maybe this could be termed SPAM nothing else will be done but hopefuly common sense will prevail :)

It's not spam. Many of us loved that thread. Reading ridiculous replies and funny jokes. There are tons of other chit chat forums out there and I've not seen one closed just for this reason yet.

if the thread was struck only because it annoyed a MOD, and for no other reason as as far as I could see it was harmless empty fluff, then why are other posts that the MODS have locked still on the board. Obviously they are locked for a reason, why not just delete them???? It makes no sense to me, and if a thread gets yanked for so little then one has to wonder at what rules the MODS work under, it also makes me wonder about this board. the reasons that xstrike gave don't make sense.

Ok, for those that have their reservations on why the thread was closed (and ill explain publicly)

Extremely good point and I would like to hear an answer. xtstrike said that me, rewdog and one_web all had like 40 posts in that thread and that we were trying to increase our post count. Fair enought but the three of us all have at least 800+ posts so 40 something wasn't a big deal to that matter and wasn't a big deal to us. We were just trying to have some fun!

One Web

At no time did the post count interested me. If you want you can bring down my post count to zero if you want. there was nothing wrong with that thread.

I don't think it was so much the post count. When xtstrike emailed me back he called it spam. How the hell was that thread spam?

ProSam
12-15-2001, 01:57 AM
The meaning of :spam: :

Electronic junk mail or junk newsgroup postings. Some people define spam even more generally as any unsolicited e-mail. However, if a long-lost brother finds your e-mail address and sends you a message, this could hardly be called spam, even though it's unsolicited. Real spam is generally e-mail advertising for some product sent to a mailing list or newsgroup.

How is what we were doing SPAM?

That was not polite for him to call a thread that people liked junk. As the thread starter I feel very offended by this and think that some action should be taken against this mod whose job is to be an example for the rest of the members.

Hi, I have to reply just to calm things down.

Remember all of this you are arguing about is the closure of ONE thread that wasnt actually anything to do with web hosting. please just look at what you are getting irate about in perspective.

The only people getting annoyed here are the few people that posted bucket loads of times to the thread with meaningless messages.

Its not just the aspect of reading through it all, or any kind of "spam" aspect, its also because the thread was "CRAP", when I first looked at the thread I thought as many other mods and people did, you look at it, reply and your go is over, people went over the top and this huge thread kept bouncing back to the top of the board because of a few members that made sure it stayed at the top.

Let me tell you now, we have a split, you people want the thread open because you want to continue to blast it with meaningless posts, I also have on the other side a bunch of people that have PM'ed me saying the closure was a good choice, they messaged me AFTER the thread was closed.

Im not making you unhappy about WHT, im purely stating a fact that this board is about Web Hosting and general conversation in the "Lounge" your thread wasnt even "general conversation" because general conversation has a meaning to it.

Anyone that still has a problem can message me or the other mods in private, request my ICQ number from me in private if you feel it that desperate to talk about it.

Cheers

THE LOUNGE IS ABOUT ANYTHING!!!!!!! THE KEYWORD THERE BEING ANYTHING!!!! And you said that only a few people who were blasting the thread are complaining? That's so not true. Look at some of the posts. Some people are complaining who only posted there like once or twice. There are dozens of complaints and your reply is escaping the arguments that the others brought up.
