Hello,
I run a very bandwidth intensive web site. Currently I have 4 servers from SM/TP powering the site providing a total of around 6400 GB of bandwidth to the mix. We have to throttle all servers to prevent overages and such. The bill for that is over $700 per month. For the same price, we could get but one server (making it much easier) with much more bandwidth (1600 more) for similar pricing on an uncapped port. This would greatly increase the performance of our web site. Server usage is not a problem as the server would only run thttpd which as some of you may know is very light and requires little to no resources. From some of the posts i've read from searching, people seem to like them, although their pricing is quite cheap. I e-mailed sales, got a response in 8 minutes. They seem to be affiliated or owned by Nectartech and use some nice providers for tranist (Peer1, AboveNET being a few). They have a 5 gbit network. So anyone, please let me know your experiences with them or things you've heard/read about them. Thank you.

OffRack is running on Peer1 and Optigate bandwidth. For what you're looking at, I'd highly recommend them. I've talked with one of their reps for about a year now, and now we have a few servers located there as well.

How are network speeds and uptime? I'm looking at the 25 mbit server as I said with future plans for the 50 mbit server. Also, am I correct that they bill based on GB (like SM/TP does)? As in, 25 mbit server = 7500 GB bandwidth, 25 mbps 95th? If I am wrong please let me know, their salesman didn't explain that too well, although did say it was on a 100 mbps port for burstability which is great.

Speeds are great, especially compared to Managed.com which is down the road. They've had 100% network uptime since they moved from eXchange Colo to the Market Post Tower (the downtime at e200 Paul was due to a generator failure during a blackout, while they were moving servers :D ), and offer a 99.999% SLA. They do bill at 95th% - See http://www.deskticket.com/faq.php?parent=0&cmd=view&id=6 for detail.

Hey Josh-

Thanks for the nice comments. In any case, we have had our share of outages back when we were in SF, but that was an isolated incident. Since being in San Jose at Market Post Tower, we really have a good home here. There is actually food nearby and and plenty of office space for our techs as well. :-)

We of course own and manage our network, and do not depend on just one transit provider. Of course, the key to stable performace is to select a good BGP mix, decent routes, and get quality hardware. We opted to go with Juniper at our core and pipe all the edge (customer) switches with GigE fiber. If you don't oversell, and saturate the network, you will have much happier customers in the long run. People may tolerate substandard service or flaky techs, but if the network is crap, all bets are off. :-)

By the way, Jason is almost done with Nectar's new website. It should be online soon. This will replace our RackOnline and SurrealHost pages as well...
