Hi folks,

I'm looking for a decent dedicated server provider in the UK which doesn't cost an arm and a leg :).

Also, I'm interested in finding providers that allow IRC (particularly high-user servers).

Thanks in advance.

Do you want servers that are based in the UK or doesn`t it matter?

I'm looking to find companies who have or use a datacenter in the UK. Basically, all I can find is really expensive providers over here in the UK :).

memset.com seems to be a nice one I've already found...although they're not *that* cheap.

Infinity-Hosting is in UK and very cheap compared to all other UK providers I've seen. My friend has a nice deal with them with the following specs:

P4 Northwood 2.8ghz HT
1GB ram
80GB hd
1TB/m bw
100GBP/m

You might get more detailed feedback if you post any specific requirements you have for your dedicated server and also some information about how much bandwidth you require.

There are several unusually cheap hosts in the UK but as always, you do appear to get what you pay for. This was made apparent recently when one of these hosts was offline for several days when some equipment failed for which they had no backup.

If you ask around you'll definitely find plenty of solutions. There are enough reputable providers on this messageboard to come up with something. You may even want to try the 'Host Quote' feature and see what that turns up.

Good luck,
Kris

Yeah. PoundHost Has V.Good Support. However the upload and download speed isnt great. Though this is going to be fixed later this month I belive when they are increasing the capacity of their London - Maidenhead line.

Thanks for the tips folks, I'll have a look into those hosts suggested shortly.

Basically, what I would call cheap is ServerMatrix.com. But, they are in the US. Also, they seem to have a pretty good reputation around here.

I don't have any specific requirements, I was just inquiring, although I do have plans (only plans, mind) to setup and run a fairly large IRC server (i.e. linked to a major network) sometime soon, and I was looking for any decent UK host that would allow / could handle that. Unfortunately, the high UK bandwidth costs coupled with the few-and-far-between distribution of networks allowing IRC means that it could end up costing a huge amount.

Also, I'm interested in running a little server somewhere to handle backup mail, etc. Nothing too powerful. But, I really want a fully-dedicated box, rather than a shared-root type scenario. It seems these are hard to come by... "it's all or nothing" as they say. I thought maybe if I couldn't find a plan like that I could rent a more expensive server and rent out the unutilised resources to anyone in the same situation...for a reasonable price of course ( any takers? ;) )

Basically, what I would call cheap is ServerMatrix.com. Ill tell you now its not going to happen, so if thats the cheapness your looking for, your better not looking at all. A few reasons to blame for this are such things as the strong GBP vs the very weak USD, UK tax levels, the higher cost of living in the UK and also of course the limited bandwidth and therefore higher cost, compared to the United States.

:)

There are plenty of "cheap" providers - you've just got to try a bit harder to get the "good value" ones. It's an important distinction ;)

Gyron do not answer their emails. I sent several questions to their email address over a four week period, no response.

blob,

Please send me an IM with your email address in and I will personally look in to this right away.

Have you received any auto-reply at all? It may well be that you've been caught up in our spam filtering (we get hundreds and hundreds a day due to how long our sales and admin addresses have been published on the Internet for).
