Being in the market for a VPS in the near future, and wanting more power and control than your average reseller plan, I've been following the leading VPS providers very closely. Basically my choice has been narrowed down to ServInt and Dinix.

Both companies are very well known for quality service, performance and support, with ServInt having an almost fanatical following. The main factors remaining were Bandwidth and Storage Space. With ServInt you got more bandwidth and with Dinix you got more storage..... until now.

While perusing the ServInt web site, what do I run across?

They have just doubled their storage space on the VPS plans.

You now get 10GB Storage and 200GB Transfer for $49/mo with their "Essential" VPS.

They must have just updated the site. I think I'm even ahead of their official announcement. :D

That, ladies and gentlemen, is an outstanding value. When you consider that it's from an A+ company, it's even more exciting. So my hat is off to ServInt for making a good thing even better. After I sort out a few details with my partner, I will be signing up, so expect a follow-up in the future.

I agree. When deciding on a VPS I wasn't sure who to go with. ServInt has a great reputation here and the only hesitation I got was that the disk space was only 5 GB. Other companies were offering more disk space, but it seemed like less of everything else, including service. I didn't feel like I was biting the bullet by choosing ServInt, but I did feel a little like I was compromising on disk space.

Yesterday I logged in and went to look at my available space and saw my total had been increased to 10 GB. That is was I call "anticiapting the customer's needs." Not that I really need that much space but with this package I'm good to go for a very long time.

After having bounced from reseller to reseller (a combination of cheap and not so cheap ones) I finally feel I've found someplace I can stay.

I currently have a reseller account. What's the pluses and minuses of getting a VPS? Do i have to install my own OS or control panel?

What are people's experience with ServInt?

I've only joined with ServInt, but I did the jump from reseller to VPS. I have no server experience, so if I can do it, anyone can do it. The server comes with the OS and control panel installed. It's pretty close to being "ready to go" when they set it up for you. Their customer service is friendly and quick to remind you that if you need help "that's why we're here." They're friendly and very helpful.

Don't take my word for it, check this thread to see what others think about ServInt: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=237204

I jump from 'reseller' to VPS with servint. You get OS and CPanel installed and configured with initial setup, as your account is fully managed. There is only few things that you should do alone (like name server setup) but that is quite simple, and if you like you can ask someone from NOC to help you, but as I told it is very simply and logical It is same WHM interface with some more options and it is not difficult at all.
I moved all my accounts (65) and do all setup for a couple of hours.

By the way, they have apparently doubled the space on all the plans, not just the "Essential". :gthumb:

Just interested, is the 10 GB space guaranteed? or does ServInt oversell the space a little?

If it is guaranteed, sounds good :)

Well, if they promised 10gb space, they would most definitely commit to providing you that.

You can be nearly guaranteed that they have enough space on them. The maximum number of vps's on a server they have is 30 they said. Now each Host server has 10x73 gigabyte hard drives. So even on the vps server that has the most users each person is still guaranteed at least 24 gigabytes of space. The only way that they would essentially be overselling would be is if their fullest server had all 30 users on their ultimate vps package. It's possible, but not likely.

There is a significant difference between a reseller account and a VPS.

Essentially a VPS is almost like a dedicated server, so you will still need to be the one providing and maintaining and upgrading the other extras like scripts etc..

Whereas for a reseller account what is promised to you in the package, will be there and you usually will not worry about these extras much.

For example, maintaining and upgrading of anti-virus scanning , online billing systems etc.

If you plan to go onto VPS just with CPanel (fanstastic, RVSkins) or PLESK and nothing else then VPS should not be much of a problem.

If you intend to provide more stuff be prepared to do some reading.

Currently ServInt offering for VPS rocks. I know, I am with them too. :D
