View Full Version : Can Anyone help find a server
Bradman 12-12-2001, 07:03 PM I've been with Rackshack for the past 2 months dedicated wise. Anyways nothing but been put thru complete heck. Mainly the last 4 reboots I need took 6 hours for the first 2 and 8 on the 3rd and I'm going thru the forth right now. WHich is currently 4 hours and counting. So Anyways Here are my stuff I'm looking for.
Prices $130 and less (American)
Setup $250 and less setup
Either Unix/Linux, or FreeBSD. I dont care for our pizza shaped colbat raq servers so nothing to do with raq's.
Cpanel
700+ MHZ Processor
128+ ram
18 Gig Hardrive
2 IP's
Perl, Php, Asp, and so forth.
Anyways when it's + that or greater. Hope you can give me some sites. Only thing is has to be atleast decent support. Mainly gotta be better then Donhost. :D
One Web 12-12-2001, 07:10 PM Try BurstNet (http://burst.net). They have something like that for $99.95 per month.
Bradman 12-12-2001, 07:48 PM I've already looked at them. To little bandwith, and the tech guy there didnt seem very nice.
I'd suggest posting your request in the requests forum.
Brotherman 12-12-2001, 08:02 PM I hear you about those reboots. I am now hosting with ServerArts.com and they have this cool feature where you can login to a web site and automatically cycle power on your server to reboot it. No more waiting for some bored techie to process a ticket in order to get my server rebooted. Unfortunately they only do Win2K but check them out, they may introduce Linux in the future.
Greetings,
Bro
Fremont Servers 12-12-2001, 08:11 PM Does it have to be Cpanel?
How many bandwidth do you expect, at least, for $130/month?

Atleast 80 gigs at the very least. I prefer cpanel WAY over plesk and webmin. I am personally a cpanel fan.
allending 12-12-2001, 10:55 PM Wow, I think you are asking for slightly too much for $130 , especially if you want CPanel included...
:eek4: :eek2:
addaction 12-12-2001, 10:58 PM Stay with Rackshack or be prepared to pay more......
allera 12-12-2001, 11:30 PM CPanel costs most hosts $99/mo, and 80GB costs most hosts _at least_ $80/mo on a good, fast line. That alone is $179/mo. That doesn't include any kind of profit or server cost.
You might just want to stay put where you are or raise the monthly bar a little bit more ($250/mo is more reasonable).
bitserve 12-13-2001, 01:10 PM Isn't it better to have a techie there during the reboot, to ensure that it comes back up?
I mean usually reboots are because you've made some changes that require one, right? Like enabling quotas on the root files system, or installing a new kernel.
If you reboot it automatically, you could be waiting that 8 hours with your server down, until a techie can take a look.
Bradman 12-15-2001, 12:50 AM Is there anywhere else? I'm really having bad luck finding these.

It's not a matter of bad luck, it's just a matter of you asking for the impossible.

Bradman,
Maybe you oughtta give RS a second chance (third forurth  )
They've been in a colo that was quite a way's away from the tech support system and once they *finally* get the new datacenter populated and staffed, HeadSurfer said reboots should start taking less than 15 minutes..
No way a company can do that in a colo when their guys are not there all the time.. From what they are saying, it will be 24/7/365...
Might be a good idea to stick it out and see how things go once the move is complte...
Shortwad...
