I recently finished a website for a client.
I got a small problem, the email from my clients domain name was set up through outlook express.
The email was working fine at first but now my client has come back to me and says he can't send email.
He can only recieve email.

He gets this error message "Connection to server failed, can't find host, Socket error 10060"

My hosts instructions was to use the smtp of my clients isp to set up outlook express.

My client uses freeserve ( freeserve.com ).
I have checked on the freeserve website and the smtp is correct for the set up we used in outlook express.

Do some isp's stop or block emails being sent through a host company?
Why would it suddently stop working?
Has anyone else had problems like this?
Whats the solution, change isp's?

Many Thanks for any help given.

As long as the smtp is the fsnet smtp it should work fine. Some ISPS wont relay other ISPs POP accounts but you should be able to call Fsnet and get them to set up a relay. I actually have quite a few customers set up using our pop3 and freserves SMTP. I can only suggest its a relay problem :D

What do you mean fsnet smtp? I used the smtp from the freeserve website to set up the account. Which is smtp.freeserve.net

Is this correct or have i missed something?

I spoke to Freeserve just five minuets ago and they said and I quote "we do not block private emails on our system and we do not control mail relaying , you are free to use any independent mail service whilst you connect to Freeserve, we will not block your private email".

Yet strangely enough all my clients using freeserve keep getting the good old ERROR 550 – Freeserve maintain that there are no problems – anybody else experiencing the same? If so please post any examples and solutions?

I just had the same problem with a clients ISP blocking his outgoing mail, even though they said they were not blocking Port 25 ...

However, I was at the clients office at the time and I called my friend who has a dial up account through www.rcn.com ...

My friend gave me his user/pass and an access number and my client can now send email fine ...

Turns out the ISP DOES block port 25 for domains that they dont host. He admitted this after 20 minutes on the phone and being confronted with proof.

I went to the RCN web site and signed up for an account for my client, i instantly got a user/pass combo and now he can send mail.

I suggest you try RCN.
