I am looking for a dedicated host for a website I am designing. Budget is probably around 200-300/month and would like to keep the setup costs down as much as possible. ( Linux based preferably )

I am interested in a High Quality site with very good support and quick response if something goes wrong. It seems like every time I find one that looks good, my research comes up with all kinds of problems with them.

Is this possible??

Not going to be an extremely high bandwidth site as there will not be file and picture downloads, or anything like that. There will be a flash presentation and mostly a database driven data display etc. Are there other options I should be looking at besided a dedicated server. I am a software engineer but have never dealt with any large scale web development so I don't really have a grasp on what kind of hardware and system resources are necessary to succesfully host a comercial web site.

Thanks for any help you can give me,

Greg

I am using one of the hosting, and i found that the price is very reasonable and their service is good. I am extremely amaze on how fast they response to me. They usually response within 12 hours, but sometimes i get my reply within an hour, it is really unbelievable. They have different kind of hosting package silver plan( 5.9/month 60mb), gold plan ( 7.9/month 100mb), platinum plan ( 10.90/month). They even provide you one week trial before you actually purchase the plan. And if you pay for one year, you will get 2 months free :) :). I am very satisfied with their service and I hope you will like it too.

No offence but you used almost the same message in your other thread, may I ask what site you have hosted with them?

Re-reading my message, I wasn't very clear.

I am looking for opinions on some of the better dedicated server options out there. I can find more quotes and companies than I know what to do with, but figured this would be a good place to get the "short-list" of the ones I should spend my time investigating completely before I make my decision.

I would like to keep it in the 200-300$/month range to start but would also like to be able to scale up easily if I need to.

In response to the one suggestion that I have received on this thread about rackshack, I have looked at them, but would the solution be scaleable in the future if I needed it? They seem to only offer the low end ( which is where I want to start, but I don't want to be stuck there ).

Does anybody know about the dedicated solutions offered by Vortech? Good or bad experiences with them?

How about Superb?

Thanks everybody for your input.

muffinchucke,
I have been down the rackshack.net and interserver.net route in the past only to run into support issues. In the end you get what you pay for so do not shop only by price alone. You really need to have support good support from your future provider.

I would suggest talking to Ed or Jay at Pegasus Web Technologies http://pwebtech.com. I currently have a dedicated with them and the service, support and uptime have all been great! My experience with Pegasus has been by far the best I have found to date.

I hope this helps you come closer to finding a new provider.

M00dy,
Actually Pegasus did provide the actual control panel, it is Cpanel4/WHM with a custom skin.

A few of us got tired of the standard cpanel skins so we got together and contributed our own pieces of customization and came up with a grey, blue and red custom skin. Many thanks to "RedHat" one of Hosting Matters resellers for coming up with the original format and graphics to work from.

It is a lot of files to change but the end result of creating a new skin is well worth the extra effort.

Have you heard of Alabanza, they provide this sort of control panel.

Yes I have heard of Alabanza and I actually used to resell their service. We changed over to Cpanel/WHM from Alabanza services about 8 months ago when Alabanza prices, support and servers became unreasonable. We now have more performance, similar features, more flexibility and much better support for a more reasonable price :)
