Hello all....

I have some seriously large amount of free time, and have decided to create myself a news website. (something along the lines of guardianunlimited.com, ft.com,etc...) I don't intend to write all the articles myself, as we would get plug ins from various news distributers. Anyway, i have even managed to get some of my international friends to agree to translate any articles presented to them for free! (I love my friends)...

Anyway, so I am looking for a host. I require the following:
the news script that i will use will require PHP, CGI/perl, mySQL and SSI.
If the poject is a hit, i could see a serious growth in the amount of bandwidth we use, hence a cheap bandwidth provider would be good.
I don't really need a large webspace, most of the archieved articles will be text which is small, so....maybe 50MB max?

Anyway, has someone created a news site allready (maybe even successfull?) because I would love to hear some of your thoughts? Also, anyone got any suggestions as to how we could make money (no way from banner ads...)?

I've created vegnews.org and can tell you that getting big traffic is not so easy :)

I don't know this is relevant to your post... But you might be able to find some great completely free CGI scripts to suit your needs at http://www.hotscripts.com.
