Hello,

I am in the process of cancelling a dedicated server with one of my providers. They say that cancellations must be made with 20 days advance notice.

Since I pay every month on the 1st, and I dont want it after June 30th, I sent in a cancellation request last night.

My concern is that, with their 20 day rule, I wouldnt be able to cancel till July 7th. I told them to cancel me on July 1st though as I will not be renewing.

Let me add that the reason I am cancelling is because their service is the worst I have ever seen. They return half of my emails. Every day the network slows down to about 5KB/s for a period of 2-6 hours. They have had spammers they've known about on their network for 1 month and still havnt taken the server down, leaving the whole ip range blocked in spamhaus. Its just one problem after another. Not to mention I pay $260 for this server, whereas I can get better servers on better networks for only $250.

Also, I find it completely unreasonable to request 20 days advanced notice for cancellations. Larger datacenters like Burst only require 24 hours notice.

Do you think that they and can they make me pay for the month of July sinec with their rule I cannot cancel till the 7th? If so, since they will have taken my server down and the 1st, isnt it not right that I should have to pay for a full month because of their '20 day cancellation policy'?

Thanks

well, a lot of places i know require a 30 day notice. i guess that doesnt make you feel any better, but sometimes, youve just got to take those lumps!
