I think I will get a hot dog now. XTStrike 12-11-2001, 06:44 PM ok, now im british, and as such we have Hot Dogs. now sorry to sound really dumb (for the second thread today) lol what is a chilli dog like and what is a cheese dog like ?? what do they have on them and any other appropriate questions? us brits tend to know alot about fish and chips and curry, any questions on them and im ready to help (runs off to make a curry) hehe Alan - Vox 12-11-2001, 06:47 PM Im with xstrike here, we need to know what these things are. ProSam 12-11-2001, 07:06 PM Well I just had a couple myself. Chilli dogs have chilli on them along with the hotdog and bun Cheese dogs have melted cheese, usually cheddar, along with the dog and bun. Does that answer you question. XTStrike 12-11-2001, 07:20 PM the actual meat is chilli like flavour ? what sorts of sauce and stuff do you usually have on these things ? and i presume the cheese simple have a normal hotdog except the bun has melted cheese on it ? its all a little confusing, lol also what usually goes with them? a salad of some sort i presume ? ChrisLM2001a 12-11-2001, 07:24 PM Didn't see slaw in that listing. :/ A good basic hot dog for me is a frank (gotta have beef hot dogs) with some good deli mustard on it. Toasted buns is a plus. A good cheese dog has the dog sliced in the middle with slices of sharp cheddar inserted and melted in the microwave. A good chili dog is one with homemade 2 alarm Texas style chili (chunky is good). Colby-Jack cheese is optional. Combination dog will have all the above with slaw, relish, onions, mayo and ketchup. It's too messy to eat with one's hands, a fork is required! Chris ChrisLM2001a 12-11-2001, 07:46 PM Originally posted by xtstrike the actual meat is chilli like flavour ? what sorts of sauce and stuff do you usually have on these things ? There's 3 basic types of chili. One, is regular hamburger chili (it has a tomato sauce base with Mexican seasonings [some add onions and green chilies/peppers] - chili is the name of the primary spice in it and it's pretty mild or hot like good curry). Two, is the above with beans. Third is Texas style chili (it's made with chunks of beef - excellent with a side order of sour cream). A good chili cook horde's his special recipe. But the main ingredients tend to be some tomato sauce (sauce, paste or pureed tomatos) and Mexican spices (chili spice and cumin for example). Out west they add Mesa flour to the mix which gives it an even more interesting flavor. BUT, the chili normally used on hot dogs is the generic canned heat and serve variety. Soy protein extended and full of fillers (goes good with many hot dogs themselves). :/ and i presume the cheese simple have a normal hotdog except the bun has melted cheese on it ? A lot of times the cheese is already melted and poured or pumped onto the hot dog (quickie market/drive-in/gas station variety). Hot dogs at home can have the real cheese melted on top. its all a little confusing, lol also what usually goes with them? a salad of some sort i presume ? Other than a soft drink potato chips or french fries, Tums/Rolaids/Pepto-Bismo. They taste so good that people would volunteer to be methane producers! :smokin: :bomb: Chris ProSam 12-11-2001, 11:52 PM Originally posted by ChrisLM2001a There's 3 basic types of chili. Ok, a curry? im sure you all already know, but its not like there are only a few varieties of curry, unlike hot dogs. so i dont think im willing to go into it unless you can prove beyond all reasonable doubt that you arent all taking the P155 :) mdrussell 12-12-2001, 11:46 AM xtstrike, I think you should educate some of our American friends on the benefits of a nice, hot Madras :) Skeptical 12-12-2001, 12:10 PM When it's cold I like to eat chilli dogs. And when it's summer time I like eating hot dogs. After all... where are you going to find a chilli dog on a hot summer's day? ProSam 12-12-2001, 01:37 PM RUD'S in Holyoke, MA, ofcourse.:D cmoats 12-12-2001, 06:16 PM It looks like chili dogs by 3. :flamethr:Hot Dog ryo 12-12-2001, 06:17 PM I've only ever had hot dogs, so they win O:-) cmoats 12-14-2001, 05:12 PM WOW.This my first thread to gain the status of the envelope on fire. Thanks all, Timothy 12-15-2001, 01:24 AM LOL Every time I see this thread, guess what I have to do.... I suddenly crave something... appletreats 12-15-2001, 02:04 AM No sane person could choose something other than cheese dogs. They are the most delicious food on Earth. All other food bows down in the presence of the mighty cheese dog! There is no possible food product more delicious than a meat stick covered in wonderful, cheeseariffic slices of Kraft brand Cheese Product. But beware of imitations! There is a company which produces pre-cheesed cheese dogs, "available in your grocer's freezer". Do not buy this product! The cheese is shoved INSIDE the hot dog in the most disgusting of ways. To make things worse, you can barely taste the cheese when you eat the hot dog! It is very saddening for a cheese dog lover to see this cheap imitation being sold. CHEESE DOGS ARE THE BEST. cmoats 12-15-2001, 12:41 PM So in your opinion the best lunch is a cheese dog with an appletreat? :D |
