View Full Version : Human Click Alternative
Jedito 12-10-2001, 11:40 AM I just found it in freshmeat
I have no relation with this company, and I never tried the software, but seems like a good alternative
http://www.osicodes.com/?phplive
SoftWareRevue 12-10-2001, 12:00 PM Wow! Just got it :)
It seems like a great alternative to those overpriced others.
First impressions.. I like it!
I like it a lot!
The only thing I didn't like about it was hearing that clicking noise over and over when the page refreshed every couple of seconds.
It would also be nice if there was a way to have an image that says when live support is available/unavailable instead of having to login to see if someone is there.
RotoHost 12-10-2001, 09:17 PM I've checked it out and it looks very promising. With a prettier interface (which many here could whip up) this script could be a great replacement for HumanClick. The price, at $39.95, is not bad either :)
Jedito 12-11-2001, 07:59 AM And to track visits in your site

Also Itotel provide a HC alternative

cactus 12-11-2001, 09:50 AM Wow! It's a great program/software. I was online with them just a few minutes ago and it works and very fast. Hehe, I decided to buy it before they increase their price. Thanks you Jedito.

This link on their website shows how to fix that:

cactus 12-13-2001, 01:03 PM I just fax the license agreement to them and awaiting the issue of the software to me.
Note:
You have to pay by PAYPAL but if you don't have an account, you can also pay via their merchant account (amazon.com) now. I come to understand that they will be revising the price as per my email with them, they can only guarantee me a price hold until Friday.
Smirks 12-13-2001, 03:52 PM I just faxed my agreement as well... we'll see how everything goes. ;)
Yes, ActiveStat looks promising but it's a security problem to me. It sends your Admin password every 7-seconds or so in plain text URL to the webserver, which as you all know can be read easily in the logs and it's there every 7 seconds.
I contacted the author about this and they wanted to charge me more to have url encryption, hahaha .. This is not the answer I would have liked to have seen, I sent him my 2-words with proper solutions. Buyers beware for now..
So far, PHpLive gets my vote .. No tracking or Windows client like some of the others but it gets the job done cheaply.
I would consider using ActiveStat if they make it more secure. I like having the Windows client and some of their features but right now they just don't take security serious enough for my likings.

diyoha 12-17-2001, 04:29 PM price just went up for php live.
It now seems very comparable to human click
later
David
TomGordon 12-17-2001, 04:48 PM yeah, i checked it out too. but got it anyways. what's $5 more :D
are you speaking of comparable meaning it is comparable with Human Click's features or comparable with price? Human Click charges monthly, PHPLive does not!
well, gott get back to work and install PHPLive. i should be getting it shorty! WOOO HOOO!!!
Tom
diyoha 12-17-2001, 04:55 PM features .... they win hands down in respect to price.
They added some new cool features like session logging etc.
So now it is really good

Hi folks, I'm beer, The Author
I had told this gentleman that I would add his own CUSTOM encryption method for an extra fee. I then wrote that I would add a generic encryption method.
The reason I didn't add one in the first place is because to get data passed to the server by a closed socket, you would have to have access to the server logs with a malicious intent. and Normally this isn't a problem.
But, out of a spirit of good cheer. I have decided to take all of these good comments of yours into account, and update the active stats program in the next couple days with encryption, and a new level of chat status, called, "waiting for chat". So that when several operators are on at the same time, they will be able to tell which clients have been answered.
I will also thoroughly read through all of your other comments before I update this program.
TomGordon 12-18-2001, 06:16 AM I faxed my agreement and just got it not too long ago!
[ooops.. i'm editing this because i'm talking about PHPLive http://www.osicodes.com/?phplive , not active stats..... chow]
SO FAR SO GOOD! IT ROCKS!!!!!!
I'll put my PHPLive up once I customize it. I don't know how come they are so cheap compared to others... it's just as good, if not BETTER!
I wonder if they are making any profit... Not that I'm complaining :D It's wonder world, getting the most from your buck
Tom
OK, I tried this refresh chat type stats program in PHP.
It's much like a refresh chat in nature.
Their webserver is very slow, and I'm on T1 speed so this was very annoying to me.
This web interface is slower and not as good.
I run Mandrake Linux with the latest Apache, and do run SQL, PHP, and Perl, and Mod Perl, and http embed perl
Thanks again for the super ideas guys
bitserve 12-20-2001, 02:06 AM Don't worry, I think activestats looks great, and it's great that you guys have implemented requested changes so fast.
If I was paying money, I wouldn't pay for a browser reloading type chat script, I'd pay for yours. You guys rule! IMHO.

Members, 'beer' who is actually Chris, the owner of the site seems to have a few problems with spamming the forum. A few quotes...
"IN YOUR FACE!"
"You only have about 100 Domain names, and about 1 billion proxy servers left to ban"
"Please don't be d.i.c.k.s."
If this individual isn't bright enough to understand why we do not permit companies to spam the forum, it makes me question how sloppy and buggy the scripts he writes might be?
I truly hope members will seriously think about whether they will support spammers, and hope you'll consider alternatives to this person's scripts. Please let people on other forums and ISP lists know the behavior of Chris so that he will be held accountable for his actions and so that people know the type of person they are dealing with.
While I have had no previous experiences with Chris or active stats, or any of his scripts, I would not even consider purchasing any of them as I don't support board or email spammers, and I hope you'll do the same.
It is rather unfortunate that people can't figure out that we have FREE advertising forums, even after being warned then banned multiple times.
Edit:
Though I have edited this post to satisfy Chris, it seems that is not good enough. Further clarification...
My earlier reference to credit card deatils, was meant to warn members of his spamming, and to have you think about
whether you want to support Chris and his company, not that
he'd do anything with the credit card numbers if you choose to purchase something.
Quoting Chris, "Our CC is done by Clickbank, not us."
cactus 12-26-2001, 01:25 AM Hey folks,
I was supprised to receive an email from PHPLIVE! informing that that I still haven't installed the software on my site and whether I would like them to install it for free.
As I was busy on some clients' web design(3 clients on-hand to complete in 1 week) and also re-designing my own site when I have the spare time, so I email them back requesting for the free installation and it was done very speedly and professionally and I am real happy that I purchased the software from them.
Now I just login to my PHPLIVE! control panel and add/delete as many departments and can be online/offline any time as I liked and really enjoying it.
You can have a look at the actual running of the software which they installed it for me at www.boomhost.com I hope the mods won't mind as I feel that I should share this great software(I am just a customer) with members that may be interested in getting a LIVE SUPPORT program/software for their site and don't have to worry about the installation.
Imperum 12-26-2001, 06:00 AM Hi all,
why you dont use Humancklick powered by Bravenet.com
It's human click and it's Free... hehe....
http://www.bravenet.com/samples/humanclick.php
How would they know that you didn't install it? Is there spyware built in?

http://www.bravenet.com/samples/humanclick.php Have it.
Don't use it.
It only allows for one site operator and has limited functions.

Most commercial scripts have what some would say as a "call home" this can be anything from a hard linked picture to a simple url that points to the authors site. They are used to eliminate multiple copies of the script being run without buying a license. (Note that PHP Live allows you to do this). They can also keep track of any illegally distributed copies on sites that have not actually bought it.. This is actually a common practice : VBulletin and many others use this to ensure payment for their excellent work!!
I would not really say it is spyware because they are not logging your traffic just the instance and url where the script is running.
cactus 12-27-2001, 04:26 AM I am sorry teck I could not answer your question earlier as I myself don't know how they knew I have not installed the software and was hoping that someone from PHPLIVE! could confirm it.

Anyway, DigitalXWeb explained it very clearly and I guess his statement is most probably correct.
AlaskanWolf 12-27-2001, 04:39 AM very likely they are just going to your site and looking for their green icon
I had our installed and running on our hosting page (since removed it and went to the free HumanClick) and they emailed me asking why i didnt have it installed yet
Ticked me off more then anything....
Everyday 12-27-2001, 11:20 AM Why not use livehelper.com? It's $25 per operator and the basic plan gives you 90% of what you need. We use it and couldn't be happier with the service. They even check in occasionally to see if we have any questions.
TomGordon 01-17-2003, 04:37 AM Hello!
I've posted a reply on some other forum about Help Desk on this forum system. I want to say I demoed and now use PHP Live! help system (PHP Live! http://www.phplivesupport.com (http://www.phplivesupport.com)) on one of my sites.
To this day, it has caused no problems and their support is great and we would recommend it! That is my 2 cents! Hope it helps.
We've used Live Person before, but it's too costly for what it does. Why not get something just as powerful and run it on your server? PHP Live! allows you to do that by the way.

anantatman 01-17-2003, 06:36 AM I bought PHP Live ! when it was $50 dollars and am glad I bought it, because that license gave us a lot more freedom with the source.. "OSI" in OSIcodes actually stood for "Open Source Initiative"
I'm happy that I bought it when it was smaller. Although we voided our warranty by using it, we've built it so it now can work with an internal Jabber server.. which means i can use a win32 or java client instead of IE.
I have been looking long and hard for a free script with no luck... I found a site that has this for $95 one time charge. They have a demo and it looks ok, I think im going to take the plunge....

anantatman 01-28-2003, 09:35 PM try phplive first
iamdave 01-30-2003, 02:17 AM Kayako's LiveResponce, provides the livechat and visitor monitor..
I just found this and Im going to test it :-) It seems like its got some good features!
