View Full Version : Donhost is annoying
LastActionHero 12-10-2001, 09:50 AM I'm hosted on Donhost servers through a reseller of theirs(Yupapa.com) and on saturday they deleted my site because they thought it was a hacking site. My site(WBBHacks.com) was about Hacks and mods for Burning Board which is completely legal and is not against their TOS or AUP.
Now, my site has been down for 2 days and I don't have a backup , all the hard work to get the site up and the database of hacks has gone down in the drain.
Any solutions on what I can do? Me and my host have sent them an email but still no reply. Their fax machine doesn't pick up. I can't afford to call them long distance because it will almost cost me $1/second.

Donhost's resellers :puke: (You should search this board about them)
:( , You should pickup and move on. I don't know what to tell you about how to get the site back up. From now on you should backup the work though :( . Good luck
Backups are a must, sometimes accidents happen but this doesn't excuse Donhost. They should be able to tell the difference between a hack site and a hackers site. Sadly enough, when it comes down to it you probably won't be able to get your site back or have anything done about it. You should be able to find some good alternatives right here at this board by doing a search or simply asking for others recommendations. Good luck
astralexis 12-10-2001, 12:44 PM I would suppose the account being suspended rather than actually deleted, so Donhost is probably able to at least let you take the files and database content.
If not, and if they have flat out affirmed having deleted your site, you could try to sue them for the damage they have done to your property. Moderate chances of success and you would need UK legal advice (I think the approach would be to go directly after Donhost, not for "breach of contract" but rather based on "delictual liability", for having deliberately destroyed your property).
Again, there is only a chance for this approach if Donhost has confirmed in writing that they have intentionally (and without warning) deleted your site.
Questions that might influence the result of such litigation concern for example the Donhost TOS and to what extent they can legitimate the incriminated behaviour, but also the question if Donhost could expect you to have a backup of your site.
Anyway, most likely is Donhost still has your site on a harddisk and will be able to give you a copy. Maybe they'll want to charge a "handling fee" for this...
LastActionHero 12-10-2001, 01:57 PM Thanks for your replies,
This was the exact email sent to the reseller who was hosting me
Hi,
This site was about hacking, please do not host such sites, we do not
allow them, the site has been deleted.
If you require any additional information or we can be of any further
assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards,

What irritates me that they are not answering my email or my hosts emails and their fax machine doesn't pick up. Even if they deleted my site, fine. Just give me the backup atleast! Idiots!
ASPCode.net 12-10-2001, 02:20 PM This is too bad... For yourself of course - but also for all of us loving Burning Board. Although I havn't gotten any time to apply any hacks yet to my installations, I have visited your site a couple of times and had it bookmarked.
I fully understand why people seek up these cheap hosts ( it is hard for content sites to gain any ad revenue at all these days ).
If you want free hosting ( I have a Rackshack server and a lot of BW to spare ) then contact me and we could work something out.

it wouldnt cost you $1 / sec to phone mars for f sake!!
lol
What kind of a name is  Donhost? Sounds pretty stupid.
I can't understand why they wouldn't just suspend your account instead of going and deleting your files right away. Thats just wrong.
WebSnail.net 12-10-2001, 11:09 PM Given that this is your reseller who is with Donhost I can only suggest you pass on the following suggestion...
"Leave!"
Anything else is wasted effort. (try Flump.net for a single account or look around here for a good choice).
Shiekron 12-10-2001, 11:24 PM Fasthosts.co.uk the same thing...
Man, why do they exist if they can't offer good services? They get you after the 2nd or 3rd month after they steal your money, always, it has always been like that. They try to find the hardest way to GET your money. Man I just hate these companies that they should be sued and taken out of buisness, these companies causes many other small companies go down, makes mad customers, makes the hosting industry look bad.
There comes the question, which hosting company is trustable, the answer is always HARD to find. Because I bet there isn't at least 1 or 2 Utopian or Perfect Hosts.
cyansmoker 12-10-2001, 11:33 PM Sorry, this message isn't even meant to be helpful, but rather some sort of written "Oh!":
God, this is so LAME! I can't believe they can be so dumb.
Shiekron 12-10-2001, 11:35 PM Funny how FastHosts TOS has just about EVERYTHING they can get you....even if you didn't do anything wrong.
LastActionHero 12-11-2001, 08:30 AM Well Donhost haven't replied yet and I have decided to move to a new host. I just hope next time somebody signs up for an account on Donhost then he reads this before he signs up.
ASPCode.net: Thanks for the generous offer, but I already have a place to host my site. Back to work to get the site up. :)
I must say this community is really helpful, I got a couple of hosting offers by email.

Without trying to sound too cynical... be sure to check the hosts that you get offers from... you want to be sure you're not jumping from pan to fire :)
