View Full Version : For Australian Hosting Companies...
irvin 06-15-2004, 09:31 PM G'day folks...
We're planning to provide a toll free number for our customers (we're based in brisbane, queensland).
A 1800 or a 1300?
Which would you recommend?
Why?
Which provider? Will telstra be a good choice in terms of quality, call rate, fee, etc, etc?
If you wouldn't mind to share, how much average does it cost you to provide such toll free number?
Your brief analysis would be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys.
Cheers,
Irvin
irvin 06-16-2004, 01:28 AM Hellooo...Any aussie hosts in this forum? :)
webarama 06-16-2004, 01:30 AM This should help - http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/showthread.php?t=1411
Yaser 06-16-2004, 01:42 AM Contact Aussie Bob and AussieHosts, aussiehosts are in the mods and Aussie bob, you will find him around :)
I recommend 1800 from kall8, vonage or is800
Aussie Bob 06-16-2004, 01:49 AM Go for the 1300 number. I think they're cheaper, and it's still a free call for your clients. :)
irvin 06-16-2004, 02:21 AM Ok, after doing some research, I'll definitely go for the 1300 number.
Aussie Bob, Webarama, what phone system (brand, model) do you use at home/office for doing business? Or maybe it comes with a built-in fax machine as well? :D
I'm currently looking for a convenient all in one phone system to use for my business. But i'm kind of confused there are many range out there. Let's say, the one that is most suitable for an australian hosting/web development company :D
Which one?
Cheers
Irvin
webarama 06-16-2004, 02:30 AM We use an NEC Xen Axis system (http://www.xeroxbus.com.au/nec/axis_master.htm), which we purchased second hand for around $5,000 installed. There are probably better options available though, we purchased this a few years ago.
coight 06-16-2004, 02:51 AM 1300's are not free they are the cost of a local call.
irvin 06-16-2004, 02:55 AM Cheers webarama!
Let's see what Aussie Bob use for his business :D
Any other aussie hosts care to share what phone system they use? ;)
irvin 06-16-2004, 03:00 AM MN-Robert,
So there's no such thing as free call? :)
So how about with 1800, is this one a REAL free call?
Hmm, getting confused here :S
I wonder what Aussie Bob means when he said:
"Go for the 1300 number. I think they're cheaper, and it's still a free call for your clients."
So which one is the real free call?

They just pay a local call charge, but no STD charges. You pay them! :)
I think from memory that the 1300 was cheaper to setup, than a 1800 number. That was a couple of years back, and things might have changed now.
coight 06-16-2004, 03:34 AM They are still cheaper, and they also cost less per minute. With a 1800 number your paying for your clients "freecall"
irvin 06-16-2004, 03:51 AM Alrighty, 1300 is a free no STD charges call.
No more confusion...:D
Thanks Aussie Bob, and yeah, nowadays, 1300 is still cheaper to setup than 1800. ;)
