Does this use alot of server resources? --Tina venomx 12-09-2001, 11:14 PM Its a PHP/mySQL online community type thing. If the site gets popular it could, but for a personal site I see no real problems. I used PHPNuke before and all was just fine. And PostNuke is a "spinoff" of PHPNuke. You can see them at www.postnuke.com and www.phpnuke.org ffeingol 12-09-2001, 11:29 PM Postnuke seems quite a bit easier on the server than PHPNuke. The SQL seems to be written a bit better in that version (just my opinion). An it's a blog. Frank ben 12-10-2001, 12:27 AM is postnuke more secure than PHPNuke? ffeingol 12-10-2001, 12:43 AM You'll have to check bugtrack or some site like that. They are based on much of the same code so they share a lot of the same problems. The last security problem I saw with phpNuke was related to the file manager that is built in. PostNuke does not have that feature, so no security hole. Frank sqposter 12-10-2001, 05:10 AM Postnuke is the offshoot of Phpnuke. Postnuke is modular and open source while Phpnuke is shareware and close developement . Security: Postnuke is much tighter about the security, breaches are fixed quickly and patches issued phpnuke: security issue's abound. can take anywhere from 2 days to 1 month for the patch to be issued. Resources: PHPnuke is a greater hog of resources than Postnuke. Currently, the coders of Postnuke are cleaning up code and always trying to reduce the resource usage. Some host will accept Postnuke, but will not accept PHPnuke. -Sqposter / Michael p.s. if you are worried about the resouce waste keep the mysql_connect to a low number ( 75 ) bobcares 12-10-2001, 03:51 PM phpnuke is very cool and does not take much of the resources. It is a php/mysql based news portal. There are no problems with it. Except that people usually gets hacked with it very quickly. :( Have a great day :) regards amar sqposter 12-14-2001, 01:14 AM Originally posted by bobcares phpnuke is very cool and does not take much of the resources. Post nuke was the hands down winner. ( rumor had it that Post hit 1150 connect with 9 request per second before crashing the server ) I understand that the new version .71 has been cleaned up and made slightly faster. Oh yes I'm a nuke fan. I started with PHPnuke all the way to 5.1 then switch over to post nuke since .64 -Sqposter / Michael |
