Hi there,
Scratching my head at the moment...
I have bought a reseller account using whm/ cpanel.
where do I create (or can I) the log in details / passwords
to send to my customers?
does anyone automate this or is it a manual process?
just can't seem to locate this infomation

You should be directing this to your supplier's support dept :)
Login to WHM (yourdomain.com/whm) and you'll see a menu on the left. Create a suitable package, now create a new user account.
You can get various automation tools or you can write your own.

I've created my packages ok (bronze, silver, gold etc). Its just the details of the accounts.
its just the creation of the welcome e-mail to send out to clients

I'd suggest doign a search on automation tools, there are several schools of thought.
I prefer to run my systems manually, but I am looking at the PHP interfaces to WHM as I may be forced down that route if business grows too much :-) I'll hang on to the personal service for as long as possible.
The content of your email needs to contain simple step by step instructions with the location of the client's cpanel (or WHM for resellers), username & password. I'd suggest a one liner to suggest they chaneg their password. Perhaps with a link to your on-line helpdesk ?
