Just found what seems to be a great host.

It's cheap ($10/year :D ), very good traffic amount (5 gigs), FTP, PHP, and MySQL support. All this for under a dollar a month. Sounds almost too good to be true. Was wondering if anyone heard stuff about them, good or bad.

I'd say there's definitely some stuff to be aware of about their service. For example, they say upfront that they offer no technical support at all. Give them credit for saying so, but don't be disappointed if they don't help you later.

They also state that any violation of the rules, such as going over the transfer allowance or spamming, will be met with immediate cancellation of your account. So if there's any chance you'll ever go over you should be aware of that.

They also offer no pop email account, you have to forward your domain's mail somewhere else.

So if that does meet your definition of "a great host" and "too good to be true," it might be the place for you.

I like their idea a bit. They host you, and expect you do know everything else. They don't let you have CGI or emails, just simple hosting. They probably shove a LOT of these accounts on one server. But 5GB for $like $.90/month is still a lot. I guess most of their users don't use it.

Well the only thing that seems fishy to me is that they are colocated at verio.net (or so it seems) and I know for a fact that business plan would not work with verio's prices.

But they do mention being the "discount hosting" division of another company. It's even possible that they use the same server(s) for both brands, just putting some of these cheapie, no support overhead, accounts alongside the others. Just specuation...

Well if they had low consumption users ( web space, bandwidth, cpu utilization ) they could squeeze a ton load of sites.

if they could squeeze 1500 users into 2/U server and they would be kicking off (or upgrading ) the 5gig users into better plans (hitting them for another income stream) .

gross income would be 15000.00
cc cost $1.25 x 1500 = 1875.00
Rack space ?
1 cheap line ?
1 server that can handle 1500 web address ?

I think (operative work think) there might be some room ( not alot but you sure as hell need some a big number of clients for this to work ). I know I don't have the guts to try something that crazy.
