I got pop-up banner in this site, the banner talks about featureprice.com, which I know they could never afford to advertise here and WHT would never advertise for them (sound much like super.nu)
Does my comp get something like scumware I've heard? How to remove it?

Far as I know they are not an advertiser, nor do we have pop-ups, so I'm not sure what you experienced exactly.

You know what, I'm getting the same thing every now and then when I visit WHT. The only external plugin I have installed in IE is Hotbar.com, which might be the culprit.
Darn, I've just found this site i google, just to let you know.

The only thing I've installed is new.net plug-in, nothing else.
p.s sorry chicken :), I was so mad when seeing that pop-up here, not first, but many times already.

The problem could also be with the site you were at before coming to WHT. It's possible that it has a popup triggered when you leave that site so it would seem to be WHT.

I still don't understand why people choose to use products like hotbar....didn't your browser get the job done before???

We do not use pop-ups at WebHostingTalk. Any pop-up you experience is the result of scum-ware installed on your PC (often secretly installed when loading mp3 p2p software and other shareware/freeware), or the result of leaving a site which activates a pop-up on leave.

Jim of Get High (Traffic) Forums did start a campaign about scumware and spying. Scumware.com is his website. I think scumware is on your computer. Please do not think I am advertising, but there is a program called AdAware at http://www.lavasoft.de/ It gets ride of spyware by searching your computer database. The good thing is that it is free! My friend installed the program, and AdAware removed 31 components the first time! Kazaa or Morpheus supports spyware. I still use it to download songs, but I just remove all the spyware. Scumware installs programs into your computer, sometimes without your permission, and it sells your private information to advertisers. I think we should get rid of scumware! On Internet Explorer, there is something called Surf+. It is supposed to be a good little program to help you block cookies and monitor your browser and stuff, but it really infects your computer with spyware. I did not know what it was, but now I have completely removed it. That is all! Have a nice day!
