Hi:

I wanted to know how I would go about getting my pager to get a page whenever emails came into a certain mailbox of mine. If anyone knows please let me know...

for example if they email joesmith@joesmith.com, it will send a notification to my pager

And does anyone know where the best place is to buy enterprise pagers?

Thanks

Most providers support email > Pager gateways, what most people do is setup forwarders to forward mail to those gateways so they have personal @domain emails instead of ones at their providers.

voicestream has this feature as well:

Check that out, it comes free with any phone that comes through them.

Anyone know of a service which can forward emails to an SMS-capable cellphone/mobile phone?

I seem to recall a set of scripts for "rolling your own" Email to SMS gateway. If you're looking to do a bit of coding you might want to take a look here;

all I have to do is alis one of my e-mails to the address for my cell phone and it comes right on over. Check with your cell phone carrier, and see if they offer it. Here in Canada all of them do if you have a Digital phone. but them we only have 4 major carriers.

Hi, fellow arch user!
I own a 2-ways arch pager, and a friend of mine read yesterday they're going down the drain right now...(financially speaking) :(

So, well, I didn't have time to check that out, but if it's true, maybe not Arch...

Cool:)

But, what if they send you an email with attachment?
What happens?

What happens to emails with over 160 characters? Do they get split into pieces, or just cut off at that point?

With Bell it is 140 characters and it cuts @ that point and puts it in a second message

I just found this today:
www.textgram.com

It allows you to send email to almost any number in the U.S. for free- although setting up an email address at your domain to forward to their system does not seem to work, as a result of some spam protection.

Before we swithed names and sites we had a guy who wrote a php script to check your email with your phone. I never used it as i dont have a cell phone that could do it. and not many did so i took it off but we still have the script if anyone wants it not doing us much use.

Dont know how hard it is to set up tho.
