If anyone actually has the 2.4 celery from server matrix, can you describe what you run on it and how it handles itself.

It should handle exactly the same as anyone who has a Celeron 2.4 elsewhere, as well. -Josh MetaData 06-13-2004, 08:08 PM Well, I meant their package. (1 GB Ram, etc) sirius 06-13-2004, 08:23 PM Originally posted by MetaData Well, I meant their package. (1 GB Ram, etc) Works fine... I only have 1 with SM, but it runs like a champ. Sirius RayWomack 06-13-2004, 08:28 PM I think they are overall OK. A server like that is probablly good for 30 - 50 light to medium traffic sites, or more depending on how much DB and dynamically generated pages are on it. Although, I have a little problem using the terms "celeron" and "server" within the same sentence, they probably aren't the worst thing out there either. eddy2099 06-13-2004, 08:59 PM There should not be much problem running anything. The core Celeron 2.4 CPU is the same as the current P4 with the same clock speed, the only difference is the smaller cache and it does not support Hyperthreading. The 1gb RAM sure would help a lot. What do you intend to run on the machine ? I have one such machine and it works just great and pretty comparable to my P4 2.8. I know it probably is a bad comparison because both machines are underutilized but my point is that it is still a good machine which you have nothing to worry about. However if you intend to run very intensive application such as game servers or forums as active as the one here, you might be better off with a P4. Also if you are doing web hosting, it might be better to go with a P4 at least, it will instill confidence with your customers. MetaData 06-13-2004, 11:46 PM Actually I'm considering it for a single db-driven website, and to also function as a miscellaneous server (mail, dns). Isn't too intensive, yet at the same time there is no static content to serve. Everything's dynamic. cywkevin 06-13-2004, 11:58 PM Probably be fine. Hwu 06-14-2004, 07:54 AM I have one with only 256MB ram (from the early days) and it runs 3 dynamic sites (one with over a million hits a month) and 2 vbulletin forums (both usually only have around 15-20 simultanious users online though) - also runs mail and dns (and slave dns for a friends server), all the sites run like sh*t off a stick, average page generation time is about 0.020s - load averages 0.00 0.00 0.00, sometimes creep up to 0.30 :) phpdeveloper 06-14-2004, 03:19 PM Good server, I find Celerons very stable, if you don't overload them. 1 GB RAM is a plus. |
