Good afternoon everyone. This post is not necessarily related to the 'web hosting" industry but more a personal question on my behalf. I have not been able to find a set of boards like this for non-hosting related topics, so I figured I would drop a post among you people to see if anyone has an easy solution.

I am looking for a way to easily backup my entire outlook express. Basically, I want to format my computer and clean everything up. However after the format I want to load the old OE files so that all my folders are present and are populated with the original emails. I have not been able to successfully find a utility that will extract the layout and files and then be able to load them after format.

If anyone knows of a program or a link with instructions on how to accomplish this, I would appreciate it if you could let me know. Also if you know of some technical boards similar to this one that I can scan over for a solution please feel free to let me know.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Sincerely,

Chris

hello,

right click Inbox folder under OutLook Express and look for the folder where it resides usually something like
(C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BE43913D-57E7-429A-8E9E-A853827CCD40}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Inbox.dbx)

go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{BE43913D-57E7-429A-8E9E-A853827CCD40}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\

and save the entire folder.

to restore just choose import from outlook express and choose import from an outlook data folder

Good luck

don't forget to save your contacts by exporting them (Choose file/export/Contact folder) :D

Hello Rofyhost and thank you for the reply. I wanted to ask, will this work if I have multiple email accounts under the one OE. I have it setup so that it checks all 8 of my email accounts at once, will this procedure save everything?

It is ok if I have to set the email accounts back up. I just need to be able to save every email in all my folders including the sent and deleted folders so that when clients email me 8 months after they asked an original question I can easily perorm a search and find all communication from them.

Again, thank you for the information.

YES! it will save everything!
Just be sure you are NOT using different identities for each account :D
