If you have 420 Clients, How do you monitor each account for illegal content or activities? :-)

We just take rolling polls through the sites, one batch at a time. This batch one day, that batch the next, and so on. Most accounts can be ignored after a single check, as you have a pretty good idea of what's going to be on the site from day to day. Another tool is to compare the disk usage/bandwidth usage from day to day. Typically, there will be a significant jump in one or the other (or both) due to the typical nature of warez/porn sites.

We run a free web hosting service with 5000+ subscribers.

Its very easy to find the warez/porn sites.

1. Just run a query on the database for bandwidth or disk space usage. The high ones usually have illegal content.

2. We serve up banner ads on the pages and can tell very quickly if one site is getting an abnormal amount of traffic by the referring url of the site from the ad server logs.

3. Look for obvious user names.
It amazes me how many porn merchants will put the word "sex" in their username! Same with "warez".

The truth is that you really can't. Actually a lot of people will usually email a host if there is illegal content on a web site hosted by them. I have a little over 1000 clients and have never checked any sites for illegal content. Basicly the only thing we monitor is bandwidth and keep an eye on space used once in a while. Normally you won't have too many problems with warez sites.
