NetXL 12-08-2001, 07:59 AM How about, 'Who in this industry does go away?' ;) Turtle 12-08-2001, 08:10 AM Oh yea, I should have mentioned. This applies to whoever: web hosts, resellers, web designers, web developers, webmasters ... as long as have something to do with "web" then it's counted. pwnm 12-08-2001, 10:49 AM Since my website got big enough to need support, i've only been away once - and I just stuck someone in charge and said if something goes very wrong, phone me! AH-Tina 12-08-2001, 12:43 PM You need to have someone available as a "back up" in case you get sick, go on vacation, etc. This is assuming that you are still small enough for one person to be able to handle everything. Otherwise, hire someone on part-time/full-time everyday. --Tina DarkVengeance 12-08-2001, 02:59 PM I usually just put someone else in charge of support while I'm gone. Then I bring a laptop just for the hell of it :D cmoats 12-08-2001, 03:16 PM You mean you can get away? I seem to be glued to my desk. P.S. I just got past 50 posts. MCHost-Marc 12-08-2001, 03:37 PM If i'm not here (very rare) other full time employees handle everything :) Jedito 12-08-2001, 03:46 PM I see in the poll the ciber-cafe option. I don't recommend that, you don't want that somebody take your root password with a keylogger. I was away only 1 time, and I leave all the job to my partner :) But, I used my laptop to access everytime that I had the time to do it. Turtle 12-08-2001, 06:44 PM Tina, yes, I totally agree, we must at least have someone available as a "back up", or to hire someone. No matter how many people giving support there still a chance the one who got away is in need badly, maybe to resolve other matters like personal stuff only he knows? That's why I'm curious, if one got away for 1 week vacation, provided there is a support team backing up, what's the best way to contact the one who is away, just in case? Cybercafe certainly is not a good idea. So no need to take the risk and login as root at cybercafe. :) Well, it's just a mean to contact the one who temporarily off, perhaps, redirecting the emails to web-based mailbox to keep in touch with the support team? Hmm... I'm curious only 3 votes for handheld's PDA... always thought that's the most convenient way to email... well. pwnm 12-08-2001, 07:18 PM Its only the most convinient way to email if you have one! ;) I think I'm slightly out of place in this topic anyway - I only have a little site that I run, its not a business or anything with employees! klisis 12-08-2001, 09:04 PM You must be talking about One-manned hosts. Originally posted by Turtle Just curious. (i travel between europe & the US often) Turtle 12-08-2001, 10:40 PM Originally posted by klisis You must be talking about One-manned hosts. :cartman: No I'm not. Remember phones? :) Seriously, I always tell my staff where I"m going, how to reach me (cell phone, regular phone) and when I'll be back. Also, I never leave home without my cell phone and laptop - even though I have things covered. --Tina |
