Dan L 06-11-2004, 07:09 PM Hire someone to do SEO for you. They'll get your website's ranking in Google much higher. As for clients, that's marketing, which may be included with the SEO.
Cost effective.. do you mean cheap, or a high ROI? Return-On-Investment is where you get direct sales, while banner ads and such are better for Brand Building, which gets your name out there, but less direct sales.
I know off the top of my head that there are atleast a half-dozen SEO/Google/Marketing guru's around who may be able to comment.
ldcdc 06-12-2004, 08:59 AM I would be very careful of the methods used by the SEO I would hire, especially by the "cost effective" ones. Fact is SEO take a lot of work and time to be done right and that means a lot of money. Cheap SEOs might cut some corners, meaning they will get you links on websites that are not really related to your site's content and even use shady techniques like cloaking, doorway pages etc.
You need to be very careful about this.
gate2vn 06-12-2004, 09:45 AM if I remember correctly, there are some sites deleted from google DB because they were using tricks to get high ranking. It depends on you, but like Dan said "You need to be very careful about this."
markjut 06-12-2004, 09:50 AM Does anyone have names of decent SEO's
ldcdc 06-12-2004, 11:35 AM Well... you could get the names of a few over at (read people's posts and signatures) highrankings.com/forum, but I don't know about their fees though. I mean... I don't know how decent they are... ;)
the_pm 06-12-2004, 01:36 PM The optimization process should ideally occur as your site is being developed. Starting from the top down, you should use keywords in your page titles that show up in your content, and these should differ from page to page. The only metatag that's really helpful is the description, though I include a full set for the few obscure SEs that look at them (most people don't bother with metatags anymore). Make proper use of <h*> tags. A good content heirarchy will help both SEs and your customers. Finally, make your content count. Use words and phrases that are most relevent to your business. You don't have to try to spam SEs with keywords in your content (some will pick up on this anyway). Just write well, and you'll be rewarded.
Do these things, and SEOs won't have much left with which to help you. Try searching for directories and SEs that accept site submissions for free. Register your site with DMoz, and consider a Yahoo directory listing (it's expensive, but holds a lot of respect with other SEs). I have a link to a site with a list of SEs you can submit to for free and a form that helps you do it in such a way that you're not tagged as a spammer. I have it bookmarked on another PC. I'll post it in a couple of days, if you're interested.
