Is this another web host guild that will certify a company that pays them membership fees? That web host guild was run by a bunch of board members from other hosting companies. Need some info on verihost (positive, negative).
thanks

There is no more WHG
Verihost is run by AIT. Do a search on them for your answer.

Verihost is run by AIT.The owners of AIT, Burlee and Pair were all founders of Verihost, as was Robert Laidlaw of TopHosts (which might be meaningful to anyone who's been following the hosting business for more than a couple of years).
Verihost's primary requirements for membership focus on accounting and business organization standards. Applicants are required to be members of the BBB, and are asked about their D&B rating, trademark and copyright registrations, chamber of commerce memberships... most of the requirements are barriers to new or small hosts. Verihost's spin on that is that such things are indicators of a stable business.
In any case, they don't seem to be very relevant in the market anyway. Something to think about for those who think it'd be easy to create a standards-enforcement organization: Verihost started three years ago with big money infusions from some of the largest companies in the industry, and its influence in the hosting business has been almost nil.

No doubt. I'd never even heard of them.

We promptly withdrew once we discovered that the organization does absolutely nothing. The Web site was never updated, e-mail discussions died off immediately, AIT started something identical called veribiz.com, and basically all we ever got through the @verihost.com address was Spam.
We disclaim all affiliation with this essentially dead organization.
Thanks,
Kevin
(speaking for pair)
Almost all of the Hosting Organizations were for-profit companies that certified hosts because they paid huge amounts of money. Acouple people, as well as myself, have been talking about starting a group of non-hosting employees and starting up a certification service. Something along the lines of the BBB, but private and non-profit.
We still are working out the details, and are no where near releasing info.
