View Full Version : Selling Huge RPG game site. Big income
KardonCW 06-10-2004, 09:14 PM Selling http://www.collegewars.com its a huge online game with tons of players. The site promotes itself by the players sending out the links to the game and getting stronger. They spend real money to upgrade their accounts thus giving them an advantage over the game.
Where do you make money?
When people upgrade accounts.
When people buy points to buy items for their accounts.
When the advertisers send those nice big checks to your house. :D
I love this site but like most people selling a site I have different priorities and no longer have time to work on the site. This site generates about 5k profit per month. It has its own dedicated server and all the goodies.
It accepts paypal as a form of payment from the players.
It accepts debit/credit cards from the players.
You will also have a 900 number that the players call to make you money.
Please serious offers only. Please make an offer to me on
AIM: KardonMM
or
EMAIL: pointsales@collegewars.com
This is a great deal! Serious buyers only.
Bright-Byte 06-10-2004, 09:35 PM :) Hi KardonCW,
How much time a week is required to maintain this site?
KardonCW 06-10-2004, 09:45 PM Since I set it up really well you have to be on for about 10 mins on the first of every month to click one button that will reset player stats. If you give out prizes all you have to do is mail them. Easy simple. Turn key is what it is.
-MarkK- 06-10-2004, 09:49 PM Sorry to say,
http://www.collegewars.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1307
^^ isn't a very good reason for me to buy your site, could you perhaps explain a little?
Fed-X 06-10-2004, 10:12 PM Ouch.. and not a whole lot of activity in the forums
psyclopz 06-10-2004, 10:51 PM That topic was baleted.. what did it say?!
Amish_Geek 06-10-2004, 10:52 PM I'm not seeing where you play the game...
Jeanco 06-10-2004, 11:18 PM and the FAQ just links to the index page. It does show a fair amount of members/guests online but thats something that could be easily modified to show more then there really is.
KardonCW 06-10-2004, 11:29 PM Yes the FAQ page is not needed right now because of our forum. I have got 2 serious offers now and please only contact me now if you are serious.
What was removed in that link? Buyers should be aware of all the issues, good and bad, if they are going to lay down that sort of cash.
I was interested in the revenue, but will reconsider now.
Tom

So you don't have the time to make $5,000 for 10 minutes of work a month?
Okay...

KardonCW 06-10-2004, 11:55 PM Me and someone already talked about this. I wont be even near a computer. It would be nice just to have a great chunk of change in my pocket and not have to worry about it. Repeat will not be near a computer for a while.

I guess I got there before it was removed. If I cared I might have made a screen shot but I will post what I saw..
He was upset and complaining to his "members" that everyone was leaving the site. It sounded like there was a mass exodus and many of them were trying to calm him down...
Him being the Admin/Owner... I'm betting the same guy that posted this thread since it is now - G-O-N-E.
How about being honest and giving the BIG picture...

I'm not sure he modified it when I visited earlier. There were 16 people in the forums, I believe.
I'm not trying to dump on this guy but when someone deletes a thread that someone where at WHT points out the admin/owner being frustrated with people leaving, it throws up a flag.

Hey, I agree with that. I don't think any of us would mind having a wallet full of benjamins without having to worry about it.
Can you tell us why you deleted that thread? Also, could you supply some traffic stats, etc? Something that could be verified, of course.
Thanks!
KardonCW 06-11-2004, 01:13 AM Im sorry that thread got deleted but one of my forum mods set the prune to 0. That wasnt good. The whole forum got pruned. All that the post said what that I was getting mad because I forgot to block a few variables in my php script. It allowed everyone to find a bunch of little bugs. It was drving me mad and the players were very supportive going hey its ok. Calm down. etc... This is the big picture, I am not trying to be anything else.
maya64 06-11-2004, 01:21 AM some stats would make this interesting.. or not :)
Duskwalker 06-11-2004, 01:59 AM I am also interested in this game. Would it be possible to see some stats?
And also I am sure it would be possible to setup a CronJob to reset the game once a month, but hey I am no expert :D
One other thing, are you using any other CPM/CPC services like Google?
Regards,
-Dusk

linux-tech 06-11-2004, 10:49 AM A couple things.
You say that this is a game, yet nobody's seen the game. Please show us the actual game.
You claim you have "advertisers". The only thing I see here is google adsense which (at the moment) is only showing PSA's, which pay nothing to anyone. Please show us proof of the actual advertisements.
Quiet forums tend to indicate that the site isn't as highly productive as you say. Of course, it could also be an indication that the players are too lazy to post, but that would mean (usually) that they're too lazy to play.
Im sorry that thread got deleted but one of my forum mods set the prune to 0. That wasnt good. The whole forum got pruned.
Actually, that is a misstatement. "The whole forum" did not get pruned. That one post DID, everything else on that forum is quite populated with posts that prove that statement wrong.
The burden of proof here is on you. In order to sell this successfully, you'll need to prove, not only your income, but the growth of the game and how long ago you started it.
Also, something else to beware of for whoever (if anyone) decides to purchase this:
This game/page is running a VERY old version of nuke, like 6.5 which is just around (if not over now) a year old. This is all well and good, but there are numerous hacks for these older versions, including sql injections and the like.
RyanD 06-11-2004, 11:31 AM I offer $10 :)
SimsFreak 06-11-2004, 01:13 PM I offer $10.01
RyanD 06-11-2004, 01:20 PM Fine, $10.019
SimsFreak 06-11-2004, 01:53 PM Man you are gonna make me break the bank! $10.50! Now beat that!

Hmmm....where could you be going that you won't be near a computer........?
jake712 06-11-2004, 09:32 PM I found some interesting posts any potential owner would like to see (that is before they're deleted):

Something about this sale is really skewed.
KardonCW 06-11-2004, 09:46 PM We introduced something new to the game called destroy weapons. If you attack and win you destroy another players weapons. WOW it is very funny to see the players owning each other. A few weren't aware that it was going on and thought we took their weapons. As for advertising if you play the game http://www.collegewars.com go to points and earn free points. That page is a huge source of income.

gilbert 06-11-2004, 09:53 PM wheres the people in the forums here???
DNGeeks 06-11-2004, 09:58 PM So where are all your users on the boards?
Can you show stats for proof of traffic?
We have 5217 registered users
In total there are 0 users online :: 0 Registered, 0 Hidden and 0 Guests
With that many registered users one would expect to find at least a few or even just one user online. Is the script broken? It showed a user count earlier today.
A refresh a minute later shows a user online.
However the main page shows
There are currently, 279 guest(s) and 15 member(s) that are online.
294 people online for the game and none on the message board?
If you are trying to sell the site and it makes the money you say it does then you need to be a bit more forthcoming about what is going on. Many questions have been asked and almost none are answered.
I'll offer you $50 which is almost 5 times more than you've been offered yet (publicly anyways).
KardonCW 06-11-2004, 10:13 PM Hahaha you guys are just sharp bubbles arent you. You can be logged into the game and not be in the forum duh. It will only account for you in the forum if you are in the forum. 249 guests means that the players are doing a good job in the game. Play the game and then talk some shinaynay. Here is your proof of profit.
Here is proof of bling bling

DNGeeks 06-11-2004, 10:29 PM Those screenshots really mean nothing without the entire page. They could honestly be for anything.
Yes we're sharp bubbles, we know that you can be in the game and not be on the forum but the numbers you are showing are skewed.
Laughing at someone who had questions for you doesn't help you in any way. It only hurts your credibility.
My offer has been retracted. My new offer is $10.51.
For 5k a month buy a laptop and some wireless access and surf from where ever you're going.
Good luck with it. If I'm outbid please don't contact me back, I will not increase my bid.
rchmura 06-11-2004, 10:37 PM I'm sure someone else will mention it, but you will need to be comfortabl and forthcomming with your data. If you are unsure about posting your info in the forum, I'd suggest emailing those interested with a little more details.
For example, breakdown in a clean manner the monthly revenue, and expenses. Also a little more information about the time you spend on the business is important too. Don't understate and figures because if you do potential purchasers will calculate discrepensies and become less trusting of your business and anything else you may state. Of most importance it could become a very costly legal issue if you misprepresent your business and sell it based on that.
Business is an interest of mine, I've studied it in school and I find it interesting to view the business proposal section here in WHT. I can't tell you how many times the for sale ads just don't smell right. (most often because people worry that they won't get fair market value for their business)
Hey, don't worry if you get fair market value for your business rather than a price that you want. The best thing to happen is you are free from a business which you may have become bored of or lost interest, or even *gasp*, be fed up with. Hey it happens don't worry! If it makes money, it's worth something anyway! (most often)
Hope that helps!
rchmura 06-11-2004, 10:42 PM Hmmm... Well I'll start out with a $20 bid. I can say I put some value into the domain name. Now I'll need some more information about the rest of the business if you intend to sell it too. Give me some more info to work with! ;)

As baal said, that means nothing, that could be for anything
Where is the Google stats? Don't forget about the NDA so censore the clicks/ctr.
rusko 06-12-2004, 07:30 PM generally speaking, these types of games have one serious flaw. players need to email other people and get them to sign up in order to increase their in-game stats. this is prime motiviation for spamming like crazy. i would think the list of providers who are able to tolerate the potential level of abuse is rather slim.
paul
pstation 08-02-2004, 05:06 AM most of the hits the site gets aren't very real either considering that a large majority of players use proxies to falsify clicks to their link
Twhs.net 08-04-2004, 11:26 PM what ever happend with this?
