View Full Version : I need help! Newbie
Hi all, I am a newbie here...have some questions regarding getting a paid host.......
Looking for the following:
500 MB, CGI-bin, E-mail, and unlimited bandwidth (is there really such offers??) or at least 12 GB-15 GBs of traffic..and maybe hosting of multiple domains on a single a/c. Budget is preferably below $13 /month. Can someone make recommendations? Really appreciates!! :D
Ericwenlong 12-07-2001, 01:11 PM There's no such thing such as unlimited bandwidth. Do a search on the forum and you will find quite an amount of materials on that topic.
Jedito 12-07-2001, 01:20 PM 1. There is not such thing as unlimited bandwidth, do a search about that term in this forum, and you'll see
2. you're asking too much for too little, I suggest or increse your budget or lower your needs.
Regards

I would have to advise as Ericwenlong did. Do the search. And read some of them.
If a host is lieing about being able to supply "unlimited bandwidth;" what else could they be lieing about?

I suggest you use the search function, and search for Aletia / Aletia Hosting.
Rewdog 12-07-2001, 03:43 PM I've heard
http://www.aletiahosting.com is very good.
I've heard the opposite about powweb. I'd advise signing up with aletia.

Cant recommend Powweb. I had quite a lot downtime. At one time I contacted the support and got several hours later a reply, however the server was then still down for a couple of hours. WHen I told them I want to use the money back guarantee, they just asked whether I would stay for a free month. No word of an excuse.

shadowsfall 12-26-2001, 07:48 PM website wise, Aletia is good. Site I had there had good uptime, FTP worked well, no major problems with _that_.
The horror story and reason I fled in terror to my current host was due to their mailing lists and email, which had to be the _worst_ I've ever experienced. Email randomly disappeared, and at one point, I couldn't log in from home from either computer (which used different ISPs, one cable, one AOL) and they blamed..... the ISP.
The kicker came when a new list member signed up for the digest version of the mailing list. For two weeks she got 500+ copies of a digest and Aletia claimed it wasn't their responsibility to fix. The problem did not cease until I canceled the account. They blamed her and/or Mailman until the bitter end, yet I have mailman for my new hosting account and zero problems.
To make it even worse, I still get spam from one of their mailman servers with my monthly password reminders from lists that have not existed there since September... and no reply to my email requesting they fix the problem.
Coronet 12-27-2001, 12:46 PM Whew, your requirements were a little high for only 13- a month! In any case, people have already mentioned good hosts... be sure to do your research before you buy service somewhere... It'll do you a bit of good.
Chicken 12-27-2001, 01:18 PM Liz, if you don't quite need 500MB of space (do you need 500MB of space?), then plans like http://tera-byte.com/hosting.html come close. I've never used them for shared hosting but I've used tera for colo/dedicated and they've been good there. It is really hard to find that combonation of large space, high transfer, low money, heh, but maybe you'll get some offers emailed from hosts on the forum. If not, then my guess is that you're requirements are a bit too high for the price requested.
