I am looking for a reliable and well known web host. The connection and uptime is important, because this is a pay site (non porn). I need a fast server, since most of my site is dynamic content.
I'm thinking I need at least:
----------------------
Linux/Apache
Duel P3 866+
1gb RAM (upgradable with 1 time fee)
2x18gb SCSI - RAID
100gb bandwidth+
I was looking at Verio, but hear that they have been going down hill. Is this true? Rackspace is a little too expensive (almost twice the cost of Verio!)

I cant comment on their Dedicated Servers, but they are great with colo. Not always the cheapest though.

I run a server at verio
Let me tell you from personal experience, they couldn't get any better. I have heard nothing about them going down hill, i can't see that happening with them.
They are really expensive though.....
I highly recommend them if you have the money

I personally had a HORRIBLE experience with Verio shortly after they started growing huge and avoid them like the plague!
If they are downsizing.. I'd suggest going with a "newer" host.
Rackshack (rackshack.net) is currently expanding into a very nice datacenter.. .Their prices are about the best around.
As for service, the move to the data center has disrupted their normal flow but their CEO is very interactive and responsive to customer needs/wants and as soon as the move is completed (in a few days I think) they will then have a 24/7/365 manned state of the art facility.
Progressive company, hands on management, good pricing, very good forum support system (meaning users helping users)
I've been there just over a month and would have to consider myself a "fan" of the company.. Very good price and performance has been quite good.

If you search these forums you'll find a lot posted on rackshack. Make of them what you will.
However, you won't find much on www.rackspace.com who, I can safely say, is highly regarded. They are on par with verio--if not better. They also have an uptime guarantee.

From what I was told by one of my buddies that works for Verio, is that they have closed almost all of their data centers, including their big ones and will only host out of their center in San Jose. Good luck in your search, but I would not choose them.

Rackspace is in the black and has been in the black for a long time and are know for their customer support.
why are they closing?Money!
