i'm not sure if i've ever used one of these before.... What is a text editor? It was recommended that i use one to help replace one word with another in index after index of code. But i'm not sure exactly how a text editor works and if its really reliable. i did a Google for one and a lot of stuff came up, but before i download anything, i wanted some advice and opinions from you people.

i dont even know if i have one on this pc or not. If i do, i have no idea what its called or where it is. i have WordPad and NotePad, but i couldnt see where those would do what i want.

Anyway, help please?! Anyone?

i appreciate the advice and the help... thank you!

NotePad is the best text editor out there ;)
I use it for everything.
For more advanced editing there is ultraedit.

Hmmm.. ok... but how does NotePad work? How do i make it replace one word with another in a whole page of code? i've used NotePad a zillion times, but i dont think i've ever edited anything with it.

There are plenty of good free editors out there that can take the place of notepad.

Try http://crimsoneditor.com/ for example...

It is pretty good and should do what you want...

If you anticipating doing some real hardcore hand coding in the near future, I think Homesite is about the best (and priciest) text editors out there. But between it's extended Replace functions, regular expression support and (best of all) realtime code validation, I'm hard pressed to find an editor that equals it...yet.

This Crimson editor is working fine for me, but thank you both for your suggestions! :)

Ariesoft Winsyntax (http://winsyntax.com) is nice...

Nice, lightweight, free, and has code highlighting...

As far as notepad's find and replace, press ctrl+h. :)

If you have old windows version maybe you won't have replace on notped. If you don't want to download additional software you can always use wordpad which is part of your windows distribution
