Where is your host located?

Refer to http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=278174 for any questions on us. We've pretty much said everything in this thread and I do not wish to bring it up again in this thread.

How many IP's, and how much do each cost after the initial?

how many of these accounts are you hosting per server, what is the actual bandwidth from the NIC on the server and what is the server configuration?

A 10mbps NIC can put through 3,240Gb in a month running at 100% capacity for 100% of the time which means it could handle 10 - 11 of the 300Gb/month accounts. Obviously that goes up if the NIC is 100mbps. If you put 20 of these accounts on a server that will be 100Gb disk + 6,000Gb data-transfer per month. That will put you into dual Xeon 2.4G territory just to handle the disk-to-NIC stuff; the problem is that anyone serving 300Gb/month is also going to be eating up a lot of CPU resource, especially if they are running streaming media or gaming.

As a consumer (I am not a hosting provider) I am all in favor of more for less but even I am concerned that your math is not sustainable.

How much are you prepared to lose per month and for how long to make Elite a success?

Like I said most of this was discussed in the link I provided above.

I like the fact you have a support forum on your site.

a whois.sc lookup on the 63.247.82.219 IP that you gave in the other thread only shows 2 Web sites hosted at that address - strange given that you have been in business for a few months and are selling at such low prices. I would have expected you to have a hundred or more sites hosted by now.

According to their other thread, (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=278174) one even wasnt sure which DC their server(s) is/are located at, I don't think they would know stuff about the NIC etc.

EDIT - typo

there is no doubt that one day in the not too distant future 330Gb bandwidth for less than $8/month will be standard - not in June 2004 though :-)

2+2 does not equal 4 here.

in the other thread referred to by EH-Jay, a user sPuD has his site (pcpotato.org) hosted with EliteHosting on their20Gb/500Gb plan. He seems very happy with the plan and I must admit that even downloading from his site from my office in Japan, the download speeds are better than 300kb/s.

What does not add up though is that supposedly EliteHosting owns the server (which is located at GNAX in Oxford, UK) and their minimum plan is 1Gb diskspace with 100Gb bandwidth. Whois.sc shows 338 domains hosted on that IP. Noting that many datacenters supply 5 IPs with each dedicated server, there could be even more sites hosted on that box. Conversely there could be less sites if 1 IP is being shared between multiple servers (although that would seem to be an unusual practice for a Web host).

To my simple mind that equates to a minimum of 338Gb disk space and 33.8Tb data transfer assuming all sites are hosted on the minimum plan.

Am I missing something here? I am tempted to try one of their plans but something does not add up and I am not in the business of changing hosts every few months!

thanks,

chris

LOL...why don't you give them a go with the lowest plan for a mth or two. You'll only be scammed a few dollars if they ever to decide to do that. Otherwise I don't see what you have to lose :)

good point rois :-)

i think i'll give 'em a miss this time around. apart from any other consideration at those pricing/package levels they are an attractive nest for warez and spammers and I value my PR too highly to risk being on a blacklisted IP
