Does anybody know something about AverData.com????
At least something - good or bad? I've been searching and searching through a lot of forums - and not a word!
Cannot believe nobody heard about them...
I'm mostly interested in up-time and if CGI work fine over there.

I did a search, and found some reviews of AverData at:

http://www.findwebspace.com/reviews/readreviews.asp?coid=1595

The newest review there:

"Reliability: 3 Customer Service: 1 Tech Skills: 3 Speed: 3 I originally signed up for the basic hosting package, but upgraded after 3 or 4 month's. I never missed a payment, and was never anywhere near the max limit for the site. I received the following email from them: "Thank you for your email. We are sorry to inform you that your site fuse-squad.com is now suspended due to the very high level of server resource your site uses. While we provide unlimited bandwidth, we may terminate sites that uses very high levels of server resources (cpu and memory) as provided in the terms of services. As a result, we have refunded the paid hosting fee of your account, and your site will be removed from our servers in 5 days. You might want to backup your files if necessary. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Feel free to contact us if you need further assistance." I never sent them an email that they are referring to above...and they refuse to tell me why they are dropping me. I dont mind if the site was over the limit etc etc.. but there was NO WARNING whatsoever.. just BOOM!"

Seems to me from that they are offering unlimited bandwidth...

I don't know these guys. However, leave the unlimited bandwidth part. Their mail seems to be genuine.
They gave the customer 5 days to backup the data. Also they did a refund for the money.
All they said was that your site is causing heavy server load. Now that could really be possible. This could be the reason they are rejecting the client.

In one of the previous descussions we had on this forum we all agreed to have terms similar to the this when one is throwing out a client.

Have a great day :)

They removed me from their servers too, (got the same exact e-mail as posted above) for excessive computer resources use. Admittedly, I had installed greymatter and ikonboard on the site, but hadn't even opened the site to the public yet--so the excessive computer resources use was from just setting up the two scripts! Hadn't even started using either of them yet. Thankfully, they did give me time to backup my stuff (what little was there), but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone expecting to run any sort of heavy duty .cgi scripts. I use them for one of my smaller low-traffic sites, and that's been fine.

Thanks for your replies guys.
I have one greeting cards script, so I'll probably try this one over there.
But I also have a Top List script. As for this one I'm in doubt... It's not a very heavy traffic Top though, it gets like about 10-15 votes per hour. I mean not the visitors who come from search engines etc.., but the votes themselves, which actually execute script. Do you think they may kick my Top out?

Is your Top script executed each time someone hits your home page, or just when someone casts their vote? I doubt Ikonboard could have generated much CPU usage by just hitting it a few times, and I would never ever trust a host claiming to offer "unlimited bandwidth", as bandwidth is quite expensive and there is simply no such thing.

Let's put it like this: not too long ago actually, I fell into the "unlimited bandwidth" trap myself, and wouldn't wish anyone else to do the same. It's not nice having your site suspended for CPU overusge simply because your host feels you're using too much bandwidth, and worse still they'll put the blame on heavy CPU usage (sometimes that is justified, but I've seen hosts tell people that their site is using too many CPU resources, even though they didn't have a single CGI script on their site -- all HTML and image files!)
